  1. I'm not in education...but a 1570 on the old scale is an insanely high score. You'll be totally fine.
  2. I took a Kaplan class because I'm not the best standardized test taker. Going into it, quant was definitely my strength. I found that Kaplan taught great strategies for quickly coming up with the best way to solve any quant problem quickly...Kaplan definitely bumped up my score. For the verbal section, I just bought the kaplan flash cards and learned them all. I ended up scoring in the 85th percentile for both verbal & quant.
  3. Take comfort in the fact that it is MUCH easier to find any old guy to marry than to get into grad school. She's obviously only throwing jabs at you because she's totally jealous. And this is NYU we're talking about!!! Talk about awesome! Relish every minute of your freedom in NYC!
  4. Hi- I think in order to make the best decision you need to ask yourself what you ultimately want to do career-wise. Do you want to primarily do research or practice? I saw that you have research experience...if research is important to you, I would wait and try for the PhD. I think you have great experience, but the Quant GRE may be a red flag. Do you think it's possible to change your prepping strategy in order to increase your quant score?
  5. I also didn't have this experience at undergrad. At my job, though, a few of us applied to grad school this year. While the climate isn't "catty" by any means, it's a delicate situation because one person out of 5 of us didn't get in anywhere. I honestly just avoid talking about grad school with that person to avoid any awkwardness or hurt feelings. As for the other coworkers who got into programs, they have made me feel uncomfortable when asking about my stipend/financial package in detail and just turning normal conversations into braggy/snotty "well my program does this" kinda stuff. This is probably easier in a work environment, but I just ignore anyone who makes me feel uncomfortable. And this may not be the best advice, but if people in my UG were being catty to me, I would call them out on it: "You know, it's totally obvious that the only reason you're being catty to me is because you're insecure." What has been your approach with dealing with them so far?
  6. Where does one buy zebra pens??! How have I missed them during my years of being a school supply enthusiast?! PS: love this thread
  7. this made me lol i don't really know anything about what you're applying for....but i say go for it
  8. Yes, exactly. This is the place for people to vent. If you don't like a thread, I say just move on. I mean, how much pressure are the gradcafe threads really putting on you to make a decision? If anyone should know the "AHHHHHH!!!" feeling it's us!
  9. Have my tickets in hand! I would definitely still go to grad school...but I would be livin' the good life during grad school instead of being poor! (read: awesome condo in downtown chicago, fancy cars, expensive restaurants, TRAVELING WHENEVER POSSIBLE!)
