Interesting... You applied to Booth as well, right? They're also pretty dang late, just fyi. Maybe it's a business school thing.

Has anyone heard anything, personally or from someone else, what the deal is with Columbia and Duke? I haven't seen much of anything about these two in the results.

I think this is certainly doable if you really want to abandon your current plans. If you're serious about this, I would suggest you get involved in research immediately. Grad schools will wonder why you made the switch, but I think you have a great story if you just tell them the truth.

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school

Haha! I like your final response to "them." -
I like the beard in your pic.

Who did you interview with at SPSP from NYU?
-
I have no idea. But I'm pretty sure the people who have been accepted will hear next week.
-
Sorry, I meant for social psychology.

Just so you know, it seems that UMD doesn't do interviews. They just accept. And they will probably tell people who they've decided to take next week.

Some places get so many applications that they need to do a prescreening process. Specifically, they might have a certain threshold for GPA and GRE, and if your numbers break that threshold, they'll actually look at your application. This is a messed up system, I know, but it's the reality. Some schools get 700 applications and take 10. How else would they do it?

I've actually done this, as well. I emailed my POIs and asked them when I'll find out because I'm having a difficult time scheduling interviews. They responded real quick and gave me the info.

I think when it comes to dressing down a suit, you really have two options: no jacket or no tie. I think a suit without the tie looks way better and less high school-ish. And the tie is way easier to store away if you decide to dress down when you see everyone else.
-
Haven't heard anything from Duke. If you read the forum and search the results, I think Yale and Harvard are done inviting. I really don't know for sure though.

If you look good in a suit. Wear a suit. Man, a nice looking suit just feels good on ya, ya know? And if you end up being too dressy, just take off your tie. Then, you look classy. And that's still too much, you can take off your jacket and leave it in the car. Or, you can wear dark jeans, a nice shirt, and your suit jacket. That looks way good. That's good business casual in my opinion. Sorry, I really like suits and I just got mine tailored (so I'm definitely wearing one of the combos I just listed).

I'd also like to know, thanks!

Hey, I applied to Wake Forest MA. The website said they preferred if you submit it by Dec. 1st; however, the deadline was actually mid January. So, don't lose hope about them. I'm assuming that since they are a master's, they will send out invites later than PhD programs. Also, I was the social psych cornell poster. They sent out an email yesterday morning telling us that we could check our application status online. Then last night, I received a mass email for interview invites. I don't know how Cornell does it, but I assume that all of the people they invited will have received multiple offers from multiple places when it's time to decide. And because of that, I would assume that not everyone they admit will go. So, I don't know if they have a waitlist or not, but I don't agree with BruceWayne24 about there being no hope. (Although, I don't want to give you false hopes, either...)

People usually do it between August and November. Although, if you can get your foot in the door sooner (and actually have intellectual discussions with them, that's pretty good).
-
cornell was mine. interview weekend is feb. 10-11.

congrats! can you PM me your POI?
-
I don't know if there is... I would imagine it being pretty awkward...

I've had two programs tell the information. I never solicited any of them. I just assume that they will tell me when it's time to actually make a decision.

Sorry about that... What was the dream school?
