^ We seem to be in good company DustSNK. that is what i was planning to do after I got rejected last year, but I lost all motivation after looking at the prices at one school. I think that will be plan C because I can't wait any longer to get started doing something.

reading the stack of 12 sociology/theory books seems only to grow instead of shrink and finally doing some personal fiction reading.

Applying to get a MA. Although I have no clue if I will need it yet and that is kinda frustrating me a bit.

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school

"Oh, you will get in" when referring to #3 program in the nation -
"Today is a multiple of 3/6 day, good news today!" "I will hear today." "What do you mean I have to wait two weeks to find out about my first application?"

Very Sound Advice on Academia (sharing from the Poli-Sci Forum)
sleepycat replied to Chuck's topic in Sociology Forum
I would say all of his message is true and it is a stark reality we all must face. I don't want to sound cocky or something, but I feel empowered by this guys assessment. I have the passion, the drive, etc. Strangely enough I actually believe in myself and my ideas. I don't think my thesis would have be as great or even would have finished if i didn't. I don't want to say that I will be the one to change reality because likely I won't. In theatre I was always the gofer and hated it. But for some reason being a gofer and working my way up in academia is much less of a problem. Sure there will be times that I can't stand academia, just like any other job, but I want to be the gofer because that will lead me where I want to go. I'm certainly not becoming an academic because I want to be rich. I want to be comfortable like the next guy and finding a decent paying postion is a big priority. Sure I would love to have tenure right out, but that is just silly and i will take a lower paying job to get started. Pedigree is important factor, but it isn't a guarantee of anything. -

I think CVs are the only thing they want updated if there is a big enough change and most likely wanted it earlier in the month. I would love to edit my stuff more it is too late. I know that you have a rejection but you have four more schools to go and who knows you won't have to retool. This is my second round and not getting in has helped me focus better on my application and where I want to be. Also remember MA programs are still accepting applications!

I second this information. I know that Fordham is funded, however, the deadline has past for at least the funding part of it.

That is what I heard to and everywhere I applied I had at least 3 professors I could work with on my research. I think that also limited where i could apply, but I think it will pay off in the long run. I am also freaking out about getting in, mostly because of my GRE scores. I am planning on applying to MA programs after i receive my first letter back and if it is a rejection. If it is an in, then I am not going to bother.

Weight given to GRE sections across disciplines

As someone who bombed the test three times, I hate the GRE and I hate how it plays so much in to the decisions. My problem is that my grades are also non-honors (although i went to a high ranked liberal arts school) so I am constantly freaked out that I am not going to get in anywhere. I think those two keep me from the top 20 and why I apply so low, but can't find any lower programs with things that I research in. -
My longest was 2 1/2 double spaced pages, although I got my NYU to 2 pages double spaced. I had to do some formatting to get everything on two pages because I was sentence over the two pages.
