  2. I was amazed to see a coworker of mine expressed and purified proteins for 4 years straight without any data and he is about to start his 5th year. How in the world was he able to get away with this BS? This type of work could have been done by an undergrad or a lab tech .
  3. Just found out someone listed 7 papers in their "publication" section of CV and none of the papers were actually published nor accepted....wow...desperate much?

Though it does allow me to have a pre-publication version of the paper on my website and on public archives, as long as I uploaded the paper before it was accepted for publication with this journal... but I do have another paper that I can't have on my website so I just say to contact me for more details.

What I meant was that is it legal for people to make a such pompous claim?

Legal? Why not? It doesn't sound like the person lied, just that they have a sad CV and are trying to "beef it up." It will be clear to everyone that it's just that -- bullshit. But bullshit is not illegal...

true that, I'll just ignore them then.

  7. This dude just finished his 4th year and was complaining that his boss doesn't care about his project, he claimed he spent on average 60 hrs/week in the lab "working" but doesn't have the data to show his "productivity". and now he's telling people that the former student who worked on his project faked data in her publications because he couldn't reproduce any of her experiments. I was like, "gurl, you're getting pretty desperate, and stop the rumor because that's just bad juju."

Sometimes I tip when I get takeout. Depends on the person getting my order and how much I think their job sucks.

Plot Twist: The student hates all of them and will choose another program.

  17. No if the field you're in is already saturated with PhDs. If your end-goal is go into industry, do you see many PhDs ended up in the industry, is there a demand for it? Not all fields are created equal, for example, industry prefer to hire people with a Masters in Computer Science instead of a PhD because the field is evolving so rapidly.
  18. What's your thought on this? Its a non-profit, accredited online school that offers business and computer science programs with ultra-low tuition fees. 2K for n AS degree and 4K for a BS degree.

  20. There is no age limitation in the US so you'll be alright. There are several professors in my program are 70+ and they're still fully active with a research group of ~5 students
  21. You're absolutely right. She admitted that she doesn't get along with other girls (both at school and at work) and that's why she likes to hang out with guys.
  22. Yeah it worked and she got assigned teach something easier. This bothered me a lot because she is only a first-year student and she's already asking for special treatments. One day, a professor (chair of my department) contacted my PI and letting him know that this female coworker of mine was failing his class and the grades she was making was far below the class average. Long story short, she had to submit some sort of petitions to the grad school in order to remain in the program. and yeah I noticed she tends to change her tone, and the choice of words whenever there's another female grad student in the lab (from another group), which was...very...fake..and I think other female grad students noticed the same thing as well. There got to be a way to expose people like this. I think my PI is getting tired of her though, he has been saying stuff like, "go figure it out yourself", "did you look it up first before you ask that question?" during group meetings. What annoys me the most is that everytime my PI is in the lab, she TRIES really hard to get his attention by interrupting other people's conversation or make weird noise for no reasons...I was like, "wow.....just wow"
  23. No, the true is, she never wanted to go to grad school, she only did it because she didn't get in any of the med schools she applied to, and doesn't want to get a job. I am upset that she took away a spot from someone (another domestic or international applicant) who is truly qualified and deserved to be in the same program as me.
  24. I knew something wasn't right when she made that statement the first time. I've worked with many hard-working, self-driven female scientists before and this person is definitely a bad apple lol Oh yeah, and she doesn't get along with other female students from her cohort class, I wonder why she didn't like the TA assignment she got last semester so she went and complained to the coordinator and asked to get something "easier". She went to the same school for her undergrad so she has some sort of connections.
