  1. A high amount of eventual attendees come from the WL. Don't give up yet! Getting two positive responses is great, just hang in there another two weeks. Good luck!
  2. Wishing you the best in your non-philosophical career. You gotta do you. If you don't mind my asking, which other programs did you decline?
  3. I solicited my rejection. You can just email the DGS, he got back to me no problem.
  4. I read the Daily Nous: http://dailynous.com/
  5. Unless Indiana completely blows me away during my visit I'll probably decline my spot from high up on the wait list. (Also, we have the same interests, which should help).
  6. I heard they were done extending offers.
  7. A few CUNY rejections are on the results pg, one says solicited but the other has no notes. If this was you, did you solicit as well? I emailed them last week and they said they were still finalizing... this is my last school, can't wait for the process to be done with.
  8. She was sitting in on a class I was taking and I had no idea who she was until after the fact. Shame! I just thought she was some post-doc, haha.
  9. In my opinion, if you are *certain* you're going to accept that offer, you should absolutely cancel on attending the other visiting days. Don't waste their time and money, and give them an opportunity to invite people on the wait list instead. That way you can hand in the housing form earlier. It makes sense for you and it makes sense in terms of respecting the other schools who are competing for you.
  10. I don't think there's any real correlation. It can help but as long as your math score isn't below average (50th percentile) and your verbal is above average (say, in the 160's to be safe), that's probably fine. I got into a Phd program and an excellent MA program with ok scores (162 v, 156 q), and then retook them for this season. I ended up with 166 v and 152 (yikes!) q. Rejected from a lot of top schools, but wait listed at a bunch of decent schools, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm starting to feel that it's like the leiter rankings, if we're not talking about the very best or very worst scores I doubt it matters much. (I don't think rank matters unless you're talking about the top ten or the bottom ten). Hope that's at least somewhat helpful.
  11. yeah! idk what's happening w/ them. the gds told me they'd be finishing their ranking by the end of the week, but didn't specify when offers would go out. i'm assuming early next week, although it's getting to be so late! hopefully a surprise weekend of results... they emailed people on a sunday a year or two ago.
  12. When do you think Stanford will put us out of our misery?
  13. When possible, change your legal last name to "AAA" in order to receive all rejections promptly. (But in all seriousness, you should know that if you have a last name at the end of the alphabet you may receive your rejection a day or two later than others. *DONT* take this delay as a positive sign.)
  14. Anyone else still waiting to hear from Michigan? No rejection yet
  15. Anyone claiming the CUNY accept? What's your AOI?
  16. They mean something. They're just not *every*thing.
  17. new goal: get a phd simply to be on an ad comm so I can lead the way in fairness -- releasing rejections all at once and immediately after decisions have been made. I will call this movement Rejection Reform.
  18. Can someone who got a rejection from michigan give me more information? No email yet for me and no update on the portal.
  19. if you log in here it should now say your status: http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu/apply/check-your-status
  20. No, those are my WLs. I'm waiting on rejections from Stanford and Rutgers, and any news from UT Austin, UCLA and CUNY.
  21. Morning vent: Dear admissions committees, please put us out of our misery so that we can focus on the options that we still have. There's no need to wait another month just to reject us, it will not help you and it certainly will not help us. xoxoxoxo philosophe
  22. Sry folks. I emailed them, they're just slow on the rejection delivery.
  23. same, I solicited -- additional rejections are coming, it's just taking them a while :/
  24. UCI is well-ranked (#24) whereas UCSC isn't.... Not sure if that makes a lot of difference to you, but it would to me. It means that UCI is perceived to be the better department, by far. This would be important if you want a career in academia after.
  25. you should add this to the declining thread in case you haven't already
