Acceptance Freakout Thread

I would be shocked if they didn't go out today. But, whatever, I've been saying that since last Wednesday and I think I only have so much shock left. -
Idk insufficient info which finger was it?

Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants

I don't even know anymore. I think I read somewhere at some point that they tend to over-admit even off the wait list and therefore don't fund everyone. Maybe someone who actually knows what they're talking about could confirm/deny. -

Yeah, I don't think it matters either. I just think it's kind of hilarious that this is what I'm getting out of this discussion. -

Betting on who is next is my literal favorite part of this process. I truly love it. Brandeis this week too. -

Yeah, they're unrelated. I'm thinking wait list at this point. Which, whatever. Just let me know so I can change my signature or whatever. Anyway, I'm truly surprised we haven't heard from Michigan yet (I was thinking end of last week) but Wolverine Access has been down and I guess other departments have had to do the blasts manually. -

No. I know that (at least) I haven't heard anything from them yet and, last I knew, neither had two espressos. -

What are you reading?
practical cat replied to bluecheese's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
No. Jennifer Lawrence is actually talented and makes good choices. The next Blake Lively MAYBE. -
This is my Plan A :-(

Amy Juergens is going to play Tris? That is outrageously good news! I say this as a fan of bad acting and worse movies. -

Thank you for this. This thread is a roller coaster but the highs are so delicious. -

THIS IS NOT FUNNY BECAUSE IT DID NOT TALK ABOUT ME OR MY CONCERNS. -

I do NOT recommend Insurgent. Divergent was OK and it is all down hill from there. Unfortunately. -
Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school
practical cat replied to Clou12's topic in Waiting it Out
This is really narrow-minded. Some of the best, most competitive grad programs are in really big sports schools. Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Indiana, even Ohio (ugh) all have good academics and good football. Berkeley and UCLA, Vanderbilt, UT Austin... Just off the top of my head. Go. Blue. -
Living in Detroit with some friends, continuing to teach (though I am also looking for other jobs but eh, I am just happy to have an income), interning in politics (stretching out my Political Science major muscles), drinking a ton of local beer, making jam, working on reapplying. I figure I have at least one more cycle in me before I give up and head to law school.

Hahahaha, sorry. It's just that it's my thing so that's what I went with. There's just no way to know what went on in the smoke filled admissions decision rooms so we can't make assumptions. Wishing you lots of good luck for Pitt and all of the rest of your programs. Also, your interests sound really, really cool. I keep thinking that if I ever deflect from what I'm doing now, it's going to be toward southern studies. -

Don't let the Vanderbilt thing get you down about your writing sample or chances anywhere else. Maybe this was a year where they were admitting heavy on the popular culture and light on the southern studies. A rejection from them (OR ANYWHERE) is not a portent of doom for the rest of the cycle. It is still unbelievably early (no, for real) and good news could still be around the corner. -
