I dropped off my signed offer in person because I happen to live fairly close and just wanted to make sure it actually got there, and Zoe mentioned that we'd hopefully learn more about what needed to happen next in the next couple weeks. Also, I know this isn't a research-based program, but did anyone happen to go to the IHPME Research Day last week? It sounded quite interesting but I had a different work-related symposium that week that I had to attend.

mohamedmd
Greetings everyone I am an international medical graduate recently immigrated to Ontario. I have MBBCh degree with GPA 3.8 and MPH epidemiology degree from an American university with GPA 4.0. I have 3 years of clinical practice experience back home but there was no real exposure to health technology as things there are still executed mostly by hand. I am planning to apply next year to the MHI degree in Waterloo, Mcmaster, and Toronto and I have some questions: 1) Do I have to have huge technical background before applying? I have hands-on experience in statistical software programs such as R, STATA, however, no real programming experience 2) For the interview part, do you recommend a certain book(S) to read to prepare for it? Hello @mohamedmd Based on your description, you would be better suited for the eMHI (executive stream). 1) From what I heard from MHI alumni, the cohort had varying technical background. If you are proficient in R, you shouldn't find it difficult to understand the concepts discussed in class. If you are interested, play around with WEKA, Watson Analytics, and scikit library on Python (see if you can find how these tools can be used in health informatics). 2) You could perhaps start with this page and "The Principles of Biomedical Ethics" by Beauchamp and Childress. Then, you could explore some technical papers (e.g., this article, and the healthcare section of this article and bitcoin/blockchain). Cheers! Hi Cloudbank, I called the registrars office yesterday and they said we can enroll in our courses on July 16. Once payment is received the status changes from invite to enrolled and the courses can be added to your acorn calendar. If anyone has any other info please add on ! Hello, I emailed Zoe back in May and she said that we are automatically enrolled in our first year courses. My ACORN status is still "Invited", but the courses show up with two of them with the schedule.

I'm not sure why the courses haven't been updated on ACORN, but the MHI website itself has a schedule laid out here: http://ihpme.utoronto.ca/academics/pp/mhi/handbook/timetables/ Part of me (... all of me) hopes this is not final. 6 1/2 hours between 3 hour classes on Wednesday... not to mention class at 9am Thursday the next morning. Really? Edited August 6, 2018 by Cloudbank NanBD

I really hope wednesday’s schedule isn’t final either that would be such a waste of time especially for those who don’t live downtown
NanBD
Hey guys, I don't know you saw the email from Zoe yet, but I have 2 questions: 1) Are any of you planning to go to the Peggy Leatt award ceremony? 2) For "Areas of interest (Health Informatics)", I'm assuming they mean what you're interested in within the field of Health Informatics, right? dardalys098
Hey guys, Just adding this page you can follow it for our program. Facebook Pages: https://www.facebook.com/IHPMEUofT/ https://www.facebook.com/UTIHIOpenSchool/ Student group page: https://www.facebook.com/utorontomhi/ I don't believe we have one specific to our cohort year. I don't mind making one if people want to use it as a form of communication? @NanBD Are you planning on going to the Peggy Leatt aware ceremony? I thought about it. It's a free event and would likely be a good place to learn more about the informatics community. Edited August 22, 2018 by dardalys098
dardalys098
Is anyone going to the campus tour event (multiple dates) or graduate studies tour on sept 4? Let me know I'll be going to both, maybe we can meet up!
NanBD
@dardalys098, Thanks for the page links! I think a page specific to our cohort is a great idea. I was thinking about going to the Peggy Leatt ceremony too. It's also right after the first orientation day so it might be easy to just pop over and see. Let me know if you decide to go! I'm also going to the grad studies tour on the 4th and I'm very down to meet up lol. Which seminar time were you thinking of?
NanBD
Hey guys, For those of you going to the SGS Orientation tomorrow, I'll be at the 5PM seminar. If you're going to that, feel free to PM me!

I am just trying to get my references together. I am not confident in my application because of my GPA (which is lower than I would like) however, I have experience in healthcare. I've seen threads from Fall 2016 and 2017. Just curious. Hello, have you joined in MHI in Univ of Toronto? May i know what are the chances for an international student to get accepted for MHI in U of T? Edited August 10, 2019 by OMDENTIST
