hey guys! wondering if you guys could give your take on this:

I applied to Tennessee State's online program for speech and haven't heard anything yet. I emailed Dr. Terrie Gibson, who is in charge of admissions and asked when applicants would be notified of admission one way or another. Today she emailed me back in response and I am a bit confused as to what this means.

She said "Applicants have been notified. Thank you for your interest in our program."

So does this mean that I have been rejected? I emailed her back and asked to clarify what this email meant. I still haven't gotten any email or anything regarding my status:(

Thanks and let me know what you guys think!:)

I have a feeling it probably means you have been rejected or waitlisted if you haven't heard anything since...have you checked on the results page to see if others have been notified of acceptances/waitlists?

I second what the above poster said. Have you checked your spam folder too? I've heard of decision emails ending up there!

Do they have any sort of portal system or email? I wasn’t aware that one school had created an email upon application and my acceptance was sent there.

I would be confused by that response as well.  Is there anyone else you can email?  I would clarify and say that you haven't received anything and would like to know your status.

If I had to guess though that doesn't seem like a positive response. :/

I thought the deadline for the distance program was July 1st. I know with CSDCAS deadline was April 1st or you could apply in August.

It’s confusing because they haven’t made decisions yet. I applied and finished my application during the first cycle but never received any correspondence like this. I only got one saying my application was complete.

Hi, I also applied to this school. I received an email in late April saying that my application was ready for review and that the process would continue through summer. They also stated they would contact me if additional documentation was needed. Did you get this email?

That's what I received as well.

My best guess is there is probably an online application portal where you can see your status which if she didn't elaborate unfortunately is probably a denial.  If there is no online application portal I'd assume the same but that all accepted students have been contacted.  They aren't allowed to tell you you've been denied typically through email or phone because it violates FERPA...that being said most will mail a rejection or update your application portal status but not every program is that considerate.

I received a very similar email from a different school, and it meant that the cohort was full unfortunately. ?

If you're still not clear, I would try contacting someone in the program. The admissions office is just dealing with the grad school admission, but someone in the program might be able to tell you what your status is within the department. Good luck!

I see it as the cohort is full. They are not taking in anymore students. You should ask if there is a back up list in case someone in the cohort decides to drop from the program before it starts.

They're not full because TN State is taking applicants in 2 cycles .... one ended in April, then they reopen it a week I think August. Regardless of which cycle you apply to, you're given a fair chance for your app being evaluated.

I think the admissions person misstated something.
