Apparently they are only offering 1500 awards as opposed to 2000. I'm upset because we have a lesser chance of winning. Where did you find that? jmillar
Made a quick graph looking at % accepted, stipend amount, and big changes over the last couple of years for the GRFP. Made a guess of ~13000 applications based off the last two years to make an estimate of acceptance for this year. iliketuhtles, rowboat, cullenish and 1 other 3
JDNet
Does anyone know how the 1500 offers are broken down by field? Presumably, there are also different acceptance rates depending on the field, I wonder which field has the highest likelihood of receiving an award. I remember hearing in the past that they scale the awards by field to the percentages of people who applied that cycle, trying to keep the acceptance rates similar across fields, but I can't find any sources at the moment. Possibly higher in some of the smaller fields since every application counts as a larger chunk of percent acceptance. It's tough to tell because NSF doesn't release those stats (and rightfully so, since people would tailor their application to a less popular field to increase chances of winning). It'll most likely impact the topic areas where people receive the most awards (there's quite a few where upwards of 100 are awarded); I doubt that they'd reduce the awards for the subject areas where 5-25 people are awarded, since the loss of one award is a significant decrease in funding for that area. Esouth
Is anyone else unable to access the awardee list? When I enter this https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/grfp/AwardeeList.do?method=loadAwardeeList I get an error message. Of course, I'm hoping that means they're uploading 2019 awardees right now. I think some applications in that field got rejected without review, but that happened way earlier (probably too disease-focused or something). So if your application wasn't returned without review, it is being considered and you should still have a shot.
