DevelopingThoughts Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Anyone else applying to this? Seems to me not many people know about it (or don’t qualify either) but just submitted mine and it feels fantastic, the last “application” of this cycle
csot Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I also applied for this fellowship! I know it's a long shot, but I'm still hoping for the best.
caféconleche Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 whew! submitted at 4:58. good luck to everyone :) trollsloot 1

Forgot to fill out the personal info form and had to quickly fill it out. Too close. Do we need 4 letters for a competitive application? Jrxw14 1

I know people who have won the fellowship award with just 3 letters. Edited December 14, 2018 by csot powerhouse 1
kiki_2_4 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I applied. I'm still missing one letter from one of my recommenders and I feel helpless. Good luck to you all
strawberrykat Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 @kiki_2_4 If it's the day of and they agreed to do it, I think it's ok to be persistent. Don't hesitate to call them, send persistent emails, or if you're in the same place, visit their office. kiki_2_4 1
kiki_2_4 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I can't go visit as we're in two different states. I've emailed him daily since the first and he's had some family trouble which I sympathize with, but I asked about this letter in October :( I just feel really let down. I emailed again this morning and he said he would have it in before the deadline, but it's 2:53 and I don't know...That's disheartening. But there's always next year
kreedxx94 Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 @kiki_2_4 This happened to me last year. My only recommender from my current institution was dealing with personal health issue and misread that it was 5pm eastern standard instead of pacific. I was devastated because my feedback mentioned the lack of recommender from the current institution. This year I managed to get 5 recommenders just in case and told them the deadline was the day before the actual deadline. kiki_2_4 1
kreedxx94 Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 I agree that it doesn't seem like many people know of it. I'm the only person in my program applying. I guess that works in our favor, right ?
kiki_2_4 Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 He turned it in at 4:48pm y'all! Cutting it close but still in there! I actually have really high hopes now. I have a strong application I think which is why I was so disappointed at the thought of not being considered. I hope everyone that has posted here is selected. Good luck to you all? strawberrykat 1
pjsuarez Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 I applied for the 2019 Ford Dissertation Fellowship! Did anyone else apply?
strawberrykat Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 @kiki_2_4 Glad to hear it! I was stressed on your behalf haha kiki_2_4 1
laveritecestla Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Applied to the Predoctoral! Asmaa Elsayed 1
Asmaa Elsayed Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I applied for the Ford PreDoctoral Fellowship as well. PhD in Education Program. Fingers crossed!
PhDHopeful18 Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 I applied for predoctoral. Does anyone know how this works? Does this funding offset your ability to get the usual stipend from your institution? Or can you receive both streams of funding? LisKis 1
kreedxx94 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I know at my institution they just make up the difference between my current stipend and the ford. It usually varies per institution. Maybe ask an administrator in the grad school at your institution. LisKis 1
LisKis Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Question: If I am awarded and I accept, am I permitted to have outside employment? I know I can't accept a fellowship or assistantship at my Uni unless it supplements but could I have a part time elsewhere?
csot Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Does anyone know if the government shutdown is going to delay when we find out the results? The waiting game is hard as it is.

poliscibi Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 So are we expecting news back at the end of this month? My guess is March 21-29 we'll start to hear responses.
devbioboy Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 ^I applied last year and they said "late March" and I remember results being emailed out the last weekday of the month. Also applied again this year! Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone!
