Are there any Clinical Psychology PhD students here who navigated applying for GRFP? I would love to pick your brain if so.

In a related question, do you have to choose a Primary Field that matches your degree program exactly? For example as a Clinical Psychology student, if my research fell into a basic category (e.g., Cognitive, Social, or Personality), could I just indicate that category as my Primary Field?

Additionally, how important is your undergraduate GPA? Specifically, can multiple first author publications, great rec letters, and the passage of time overcome a 3.3?

1st yr PhD EE, honorable mention. (Awarded NDSEG though)

-------

1. E/E Summary:

The research topic is thoroughly covered, with background, research plans, and objectives clearly specified. Letter of recommendations really highlight the student's strengths and qualities. Stellar performance specifically with [outreach targeted towards] under represented minorities.

2. E/VG Summary:

I believe that the candidate is in a strong position to undertake such a challenging problem. She has access to the required lab space and resources at the institute. She has laid down an ambitious; however, an achievable plan for the research. I believe that her past achievements, industry and startup company experience, academic performance make her an ideal candidate for this fellowship.

3. VG/E Summary:

The applicant has proven to be a strong researcher with extensive experience. She is poised for success in her doctoral research and will be an important role model for women and minorities in STEM.

Reviewer 3 in the individual comment sections did write some negative feedback that I don't think I could have avoided. They mentioned that given my past work it was surprising I didn't have more publications but a lot of my work has been export controlled/trade secret so it's not like I could have done it anyway. They also said it would have been nice if I had quantified the outcomes of my outreach work... but like who does that? They also disagreed w/reviewer 3 re:academic performance.

Either way, I don't think there's much I could have differently. It is what it is.

Are they still giving out awards to honorable mentions after people turn down the award? They changed the language in the FAQ to make it seem like they stopped doing that. Just curious

My understanding is that Honorable Mentions aren't a waiting list for the award. There's no set number of awards they have to distribute. If someone turns the award down, there just is one fewer award given out that year.

For people who accepted right after April 20th, have there been any emails sent out? I have only received one titled "USGS GRIP and INTERN Info Session" which was sent today. I really just want to make sure I didn't miss any of their emails.

@homesteadjoe Yup - so far the only emails I have from NSF are a) notification about the award decisions (March 30), b) notification that reviews were available (April 21) and c) the GRIP/Intern email today.

Yep, that's all I have received since as well.
