Angela Merkel Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Yo estaba esperando el rechazo hace una semana. Mucho se han tardado. ?

doggydaddy248 Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Hi everyone, I just got accepted into my first master's program, and I haven't heard about funding yet. I got an email that my status has changed and this message "Congratulations! The graduate program to which you have applied has recommended your admission. The decision is not final until the Graduate School performs a review of your application materials. When you are ready, you may submit the enrollment intention form (below). You should also submit any missing checklist items listed below (scroll down). A decision letter will be posted once the Graduate School has received and verified your materials." It sounds to me that I have to submit my enrollment intention before I get a decision letter. I don't want to commit before I hear about funding or back from other schools. What should I do?

Recommendation: Do NOT commit to anything until you have a formal offer in hand. Also, based on my experience, wait until you get other offers and compare then. You have until April 15. And so far you are only a number or an application out of many to them. I have changed the way I see this circus in the last two years after I have been a year and a half in a Master's program in a fairly respectable big department. Fell free to contact me if you want to hear any more advice. senorbrightside and doggydaddy248 2

firefly22 Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 ¡Hola!
Conejita Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 How has everyone been coping? The radio silence and suspense has been killing me ? I starting to see results uploaded. I am hoping that means I’ll hear back from my schools soon. Buena suerte a todos

Hope you're coping better than I am! Someone posted a rejection from U of Washington, and my app is still stuck on submitted. I've spent all day checking my email...I swear, if it was Washington University in St. Louis and not Seattle...
Ya Washington University in St. Louis envió rechazos y yo no sé nada. ? Quizás si les envío un ramo de flores terminen de una vez. ? On 2/12/2021 at 5:16 PM, senorbrightside said: Coping? Anabel Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 I saw someone had added an "accepted" to UVA yesterday! Has anyone else heard back from them? I received notification that I've been waitlisted at Georgetown (Literature path). Continued good luck to everyone!! senorbrightside 1

I talked to DGS in early February and she told me that they are reviewing the files now... it’s odd bc two people posted “accepted” in January.... I hope everyone is doing well with their anxiety of endless waiting, including myself senorbrightside 1
Conejita Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 I feel better knowing I am not the only one in the pits of anxious despair ? What schools did everyone end up applying to? literature or linguistics?
Angela Merkel Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Conejita: I have no idea how each department does it since they are so different from each other. Indiana never responded to me when I asked if they had different processes for the evaluation process, one for linguistics and another for literature. But I suspect that the linguistics applicants who submitted their applications in December (foreign ones) had an advantage since Indiana has accepted several already. I am a literature student. California at San Diego already rejected me. Waiting for the other ones' rejections. ? Did anyone here apply to WUSTL or UIC? I also applied to Nebraska, although it seems that they are a very small department, based on the number of graduate instructors, also known as "slave chattel that does the teaching that we are too good to do, with a plantation manager ('course coordinator') to work you to the ground". ?♀️ Have a drink tonight to relax for a while. ?

Cite your sources! One of my professors from my MA recommended Nebraska because it was a smaller department and she thought I would thrive there, but as much as I love teaching I don't want it to be so demanding I don't have time for research + self care... To answer Conejita's question, I also applied to UVA, Washington (Seattle), Penn State, McGill, Toronto and Durham (in the UK). Edited to add I'm Lit. Edited February 13, 2021 by senorbrightside

(More like the one I am in now, where we are more like forced workers under a tyrant Nazi supervisor in a World War II concentration camp in Poland.) I am sure that there are normal coordinators somewhere who do not forget that you are taking several literature graduate-level seminars with their corresponding weekly requirements. senorbrightside 1
Angela Merkel Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 (edited) Senorbright: McGill is a gorgeous campus. I have seen part of it personally. There are lots of sex shops on that main avenue where the main entrance is, but that is typical of Montreal. I thought that piece of information might help you in your decision if they accept you. ? And also, you better brush on your French, it is French-speaking Canada, although the university uses English as its main language. They expect a high degree of French before your exams, I think. I considered applying there, very seriously. I ended up being a coward, afraid of their European system at the graduate level. Edited February 14, 2021 by Angela Merkel senorbrightside 1

Conejita Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 Another day of anxiety as we begin the week of refreshing our emails every minute of the day (or at least I do). Remember to take care of yourself. Maybe limit the checking for your own mental health (I know easier said than done). I am hoping that we all hear good news this week. And to answer my own question: I applied for the literature track to Tulane, Stony Brook, Indiana, and U Kentucky. I have yet to hear back. I am trying to remain positive!! This cycle is such a toss up. It seems to be portals aren’t updating and they’re taking longer than usual to message people. My theory is that schools have bigger waitlists this year and they’re hoping people commit sooner so they can move their waiting list. senorbrightside 1
senorbrightside Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 I limit to checking portals twice a day, around noon and 7 pm my time. I have my phone on my bed or something soft and face down so I can't hear if it vibrates, lol. Do schools inform people if they're on the waiting list? And specifically for @Conejita I did my undergrad at UK, so let me know if you have any questions! A lot of the department I knew is no longer there, including my two fave professors, but I do still know some people. It's a great department! I hope everyone hears great news sooner than later.
