FYI I just got an offer for university of Calgarys mpp. Not sure if any of you also applied. But also waiting on sfu and uvic.

Congrats! I am still waiting on Uvic too. I was accepted to Carleton and Ryerson, Uvic seems to be late.

For those awaiting a UVIC decision, I just got an offer right now!

However, I am going to accept my Carleton offer after doing much due diligence. If anyone is going to Carleton in the Fall, please keep in touch, as I would love to establish a connection with some members in the upcoming cohort?!

I have received an offer from UVIC as well. How much funding did you get?

I will also be attending Carleton instead!

Wow, congratulations! I am waiting for an offer from UVIC, they're my top choice school and I am from the island, so hopefully I will hear soon! I was offered acceptance from Ryerson and Carleton

Hi! Curious about whether anyone here knows about or even applied to McMaster's MPP? I'm pretty intrigued by its focus on digital technology (which is what I am interested in for my career) but am weary over how new of a program it is. I applied and will see what happens (hopefully very soon), but just wanted to hear other thoughts!

Seeing that the vast majority (if not all) MPA/MPP/MPwhatever programs have good graduate outcomes in Canada, I would not worry too much about it. I think the digital focus could be applicable, and it won’t be long until industry (private sector especially) picks up on this niche.

Just got accepted into the University of Calgary's MPP program with 6,000$ in funding.

Stats:

B.Soc.sci Public Administration and Political Science from the University of Ottawa. 7.78 CGPA (out of 10) which is roughly a 3.65 GPA if my calculations are right.

Minor research history: some regulatory, and general research as work experience.

All the best! I like their final presentation style of grading. The networking event seems pretty good.

Hey guys,

Am an international here - received offers for Ryerson's MPPA and Carleton's MPM (Political Management) with funding. Just wanted to check which one actually makes more sense as am hoping to stay on in Canada and work in public affairs-related roles.

Is it also easy to secure placement opportunities at Carleton? There's also a professional industry work attachment programme - just wondering how easy it is to get something.

What about part time jobs in Ottawa during term time? I'm currently working for a consulting firm in strategic communications and public affairs. Am open to all kinds of jobs. Thank you!

Anyone hear from sfu yet?

On the 7th I got an email from the department manager letting me know I've been accepted but I still haven't received the official offer. She even said to let her know if I hadn't received t by the end of last week, which I did, but I haven't heard back.

Congrats! Did you apply to UVIC for their online or on campus program?

Thank you! I applied for on campus, how about you? I have heard they've begun to send out admissions on Tuesday, but I guess they're staggered. I have to accept or decline Ryerson by April second so I'm cutting it close!

I applied for online program! I think they usually send them out a bit later than the on campus but I am not totally sure. Hopefully get some good news soon. I didn’t get in last year and it was the only school I applied too.
Can you ask Ryerson for an extension if needed? Hoping time is on your side!

Can anyone provide any pros and cons of Ryerson's MPPA and Uvic's MPA? I have done a lot of research and am leaning towards Ryerson, however I am from Vancouver Island so a move to Uvic would be much more convenient than a move to Toronto! However, moving to Toronto is quite appealing. Any advice is very welcome!

You can't work for the Federal Government legally. The Feds only hire Canadians, and that's a strict rule. Carleton is in Ottawa, and it's mainly a feeder to Federal Government jobs. You can definitely try, and you might end up in the Provincial side or Municipal side. Depends on what you want.

Ryerson MPPA allows you access to Toronto, and by extension, quite a reach to OPS based nearby. Though the program is relatively new as I've heard, and the connections might not be as strong. Your mileage may vary here.

Between both options, I'd say you're kinda stuck in the middle hoping for the best afterwards. But if my money's on the table, I'd pick Carleton any day. It's just a matter of putting more effort and standing out, networking, and building on Carleton's policy/political reputation.

I applied to the on campus MPA. It was a difficult decision to say no to that opportunity, so I hope it opens up a spot for another deserving student. Moreover, I hope you hear good news from the online program!
