IrishScientist Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Hi Irishscientist, I hate to be the bearer of the bad news. Yet, I guess we'd better face the truth. I spoke with a Harvard's admit and they got the impression that all admits had been communicated by the department already. We have the same status by now. You're not at all alone and I do sympathize with you. We both have a wait list plus interviews. Fingers crossed we could get in one at least. Did you find out where you stand in Chicago's waiting list? Any news from your UCB/UCSF? I told you from the very beginning, you'd get in both UCB/UCSF and MIT. If you don't believe in me, wait and see! cheers, Hey Persiandoc. I just got rejected from Berkeley Med Anthro :-( The grad coordinator told me that they only accepted two out of thirty eight applicants this year.... Probably funding issues as California has no money. I have my HASTS interview on Friday so I'll let you know how it goes. Have you had any acceptances yet?
C'estLaVie Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Congratulations! Now if only they can send that email my way...........................*checks email compulsively* Hey guys, I heard back from Boston University! I was accepted, but on the wait-list for financial aid... "Congratulations! The Admissions Committee of the Anthropology Department is recommending you for admission to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In addition, the Admissions Committee is recommending that you be placed on the wait-list for financial aid. You will receive official notification from the Graduate School within the next week."
new mexico Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 You did really well this year! Congratulations! I'm surprised to learn that MD is your ultimate goal and that you want to do a PhD first and then a MD. Most medical anthropologists I know started their careers as a MD and went on to pursue a degree in anthropology. But not all medical anthropologists have a PhD in anthropology In any case, I really admire your determination and courage to spend the next 10+ years in grad school. Only people who have a clear goal like yourself will have the determination to do two doctorates! I think it's remarkable! Please forgive my ignorance, but I am wondering why a Mdiv. is relevant to your career goal. Thanks! And I was JUST accepted to University of New Mexico for the phd in ethnology ! The MD and the PhD should only take about 9 to 10 years, which is a long time; however, I LOVE school . The MDiv at Emory and Boston University are completely different than at most schools. My electives (that is, a little over a third of my course work) can be in ANY discipline. Naturally, I would take anthropology courses. Also, I'm interested (even with my anthro) in political / liberation theology. Geez, I hope Oxford will get back to me sooner rather than later concerning which college i've been accepted to. Also, i wish the Clarendon was awarded in March instead of April
new mexico Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Persiandoc, Every time I enter this topic I keep hoping you'll have a post that says "I'M IN! I'M IN!!!" Please keep us posted. I'm pulling for you, man!!!!

Hi Designated, Congratulations!! Would you mind telling me if you are Bio or Cultural? Thanks and Congratulations again!
C'estLaVie Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I wish in every acceptance/rejection letter, the Universities would add "Please update the results on TheGradCafe.com so those poor souls who haven't heard anything will have a better understanding of where they stand".

Designated Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Congratulations! Now if only they can send that email my way...........................*checks email compulsively* Thanks, C'estLaVie. Good luck to you! I saw on the results page that people emailed the department directly only to find out they've been rejected so I figured decisions were already made and people who were accepted have already been informed.
Designated Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hi Designated, Congratulations!! Would you mind telling me if you are Bio or Cultural? Thanks and Congratulations again! Thanks! I'm cultural, but also have an interest in linguistic anthropology.

gonenative Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 There are so few Stanford stats on here you'd think they never took anyone (not true; I visited and they really do have grad students). I was actually wondering if they ask people NOT to post admits here?!?! HA!! I couldn't agree more.

anthro.fish Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks Ivanov, at this point I would pay good money to get any information about Stanford. I'm not too hopeful, though, for two reasons: a.) Because of that post about an acceptance being given following an interview--of course I was involved in no such interview, and b.) Because of their ridiculously low admittance rate (e.g. the Modern Thought and Literature program accepted 2 out of 164 applicants; ouch . . . 162 people REJECTED!!!) sheesh . . . anyways . . . let us know if you hear any little peep. Cheers. I sent an email to Stanford on Saturday, still no response. I'll keep this topic updated if I hear anything.

eok925 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hey there, ' I was wondering if anyone who'd interviewed/been rejected/accepted at WashU could comment. Has it all been personal contact with your POI or what? Has anyone gotten an official letter--email, post--or has everything been personal, "unofficial" contact? Ugh, sorry for posting something so nitpicky. Just hoping for some good news (aren't we all?!).
persiandoc Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hey friends, WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I just got up in the morning and straight went to check my emails hopelessly. Guess what I got? I got admitted by NYU. (YIPPIE).................................... Let's party guys! I got another email from CUNY too. I've been again waitlisted by CUNY and I'm gonna decline it very soon. Any other admits from NYU or any waitlists from CUNY? Congrats on BU, UNM and other new acceptances! I think I'm gonna wait for Yale too, cheers,
persiandoc Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hi new mexico, thanks for your staying and supporting me emotionally from the very beginning of this tormenting waiting process. You know! I'M IN, I'M IN. another waitlist from CUNY but I'm in my second choice NYU, wahoooooooooooooo! la la la la la la la, I really forgot where you got in. I'd love to see you if I can succeed with my visa issuance as well and end up in NYC, keep in touch Persiandoc, Every time I enter this topic I keep hoping you'll have a post that says "I'M IN! I'M IN!!!" Please keep us posted. I'm pulling for you, man!!!!
persiandoc Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Oh sweetheart! I'm so sorry to hear that. You have no idea how strongly I wanted you to get in UCB/UCSF. Yet, don't worry! You'll get in MIT fo sure. Be as charming as possible. Basically they want to make sure the interviewee is not a jerk, arrogant or load. Just be yourself and don't try to show up in your outfit, I mean, don't wear a trendy or showy outfit. Just be relaxed and humble and try to indirectly convey that MIT is your first choice. Don't feel so disappointed if you'd have to respond to their enquiry on other options. You can also tell them you had applied to Harvard basically to access MIT's faculty and sources as well coz you were aware you'd have the possibility of a lot of cross-registering. You're just great buddy. I'll be rooting for you. You also have Chicago as backup! I just got accepted by NYU and waitlisted by CUNY. I now have three waitlists. I'm gonna decline CUNY's waitlist offer to give space to the others, do keep me updated after you do you interview. Are you going to Cambridge? It's just better to do in-person interviews. You're gonna convince them you're the best in the most humble and pleasant manner, coz you're really the best fit for their program. I got rejected but based on the brief description of your project and interests, I am 100% sure you're the best of the bests, I'll be rooting for you, Cheers Hey Persiandoc. Bones_gal85 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hey guys! First time posting...but I'm just wondering if anyone out there has heard anything from the Texas State forensic anthro department. I know their admissions system changed and it took a while for the packets to be completed, but any info would be helpful. I know it's not exactly a huge popular program....but maybe someone out there has also applied?
Sarah S. Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I just want to say that as a current grad student and gradcafe lurker I'm happy to see you guys start to get your admits Congratulations everyone who has, and good luck for everyone who hasn't YET!
persiandoc Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Thank you very much indeed. Did you hear anything from them? Fingers crossed you'd be at least waitlisted even if you don't get accepted straight away! It means a lot to me if you could get in. I'll be waiting for Yale's final decision too. NYU's funding package is not that good for NYC that is hell of an expensive place, Oh my god!!! Congrats!!! What did I tell you?!! I'm so happy for you, persiandoc

I'll come visit you when I visit my BF. We can have martinis after all! haha. Good luck with Yale. I'd imagine you'd get in, considering you've been admitted/waitlisted by arguably the top anthro programs in the US for the work you want to do.
