nantlalli Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hi everyone, I'm new to this thread but I also applied to the anthro. program at Rutgers and was interviewed during the first week of February. I've read that some of you were also interviewed during the same time and some have been admitted already. I have not been contacted since and I have a feeling that I probably did not make it, I have not heard back from them since.....it's horrible ! The interview lasted a bit less than 15 mins. and it was not good, but not bad either.....I know its useless now but I keep wondering what question I answered incorrectly or at which point in those 15 mins. I screwed up. Who has been interviewed, and accepted? waitlisted? I know I just have to wait it out, although the director told me I'd be hearing back from the "very soon"....huh? (it's been more than 2 weeks.....) Greetings to all from Berlin. Dismiss this post, I contacted someone who was wait-listed......I'd be happy to hear back from those of your who applied to Rutgers though. Anyway, best of luck to all of you
santhf Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hey, Just saw your message - so basically i got a message and they said i was waitlisted - not sure exactly what that means. I would reach out to them - worst case theyll say u were rejected and you can move on, haha. They told me i was waitlisted and like really high on the list, but they also told that to someone else who appplied, so i dont know exactly what any of it means. I know they gave out to formal offers.... Good luck!!!! S Dismiss this post, I contacted someone who was wait-listed......I'd be happy to hear back from those of your who applied to Rutgers though. I just did not want to seem too "pushy", but it's been almost 3 weeks now.

They got back to me Thursday after that to tell me that I am inn. It was super quick.I thought I messed up the interview. Santhf only got contacted a couple of days ago, so it looks like their admission process is rather drawn out. Any other way I can help you?
santhf Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Dont, you wonts eem pushy - ha, I emailed them last week! Hi S, Thanks for the info ! I guess I will just contact them directly and get it over with. I just did not want to seem too "pushy", but it's been almost 3 weeks now.

SANTHF "Dont, you wonts eem pushy - ha, I emailed them last week!" Santhf: Just did ! (But I am really afraid this will fall through) Siad! Aha, another fellow living in DE at the moment....so they really were quick. I interviewed and also felt like I messed up.....I am doing research with immigrants in Germany and they asked me if I was planning on learning the language and I was frank by saying that if I left Germany I'd probably just want to keep my German strong and that in two years I was not certain I'd be able to master Turkish to conduct interviews....I think that was not the right answer (maybe I seemed too "disinterested"??? although I lived in TR before and have done research with German-Turks already.....) Anyway this is my take on things as of now. Nevertheless, I am glad to hear you made it in! It sounds like an amazing program with great people. I spoke with a current grad.student one week ago and she told me some nice things. It's not a nice feeling to know you f-up an interview, I'd like to know how much weight the interview has....ah. Useless.

Useless. Thank you, it's a relief to be inn definitely. But still the wait for other programs is torturing. I think if they interviewed you, they're definitely interested in you and your project and deem it a good fit. The problem with interviews is that you never now who's with you in the pool and who of the faculty sees some reflection of their research interests in yours, thus stands up for you. It's all a guessing game. Where else did you apply?

It's all a guessing game. Where else did you apply? I only applied to 2 anthropology programs, and 4 sociology ones. Out of the 6 schools so far (Princeton, Stanford, USC, UCSD, Rutgers, Duke) I've only received one acceptance: UCSD. I also applied to Duke's anthro. program and was rejected a week ago. I know this forum's about anthro. so I won't mention too much about the other schools, but USC confused me a lot because the grad.director wrote to me that they were really interested in me, but still they did not accept me. Err...."hey we really liked you" but still, for one reason or another it did not work out. I feel bummed because I am currently doing a PhD in Berlin (I am originally from the US/MX) and wanted to make my transition to US academia. That's my story.
Apegirl Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I get the sense no news is definitely not good news for BU at this point (anth PhD). I think you are right.
ubchick Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 An email sent from UPenn grad coordinator this morning.. ----------------------------------- "Thank you for your application to the graduate Anthropology program at Penn. Our faculty has made their admissions decisions for all Fall 2011 graduate applications. After receiving approval from the Graduate Dean we hope to send out announcements within the next two weeks. Decisions will first be sent out via email (for speed and accesibility) and if an applicant is accepted, a paper letter will follow in the regular mail with an admissions offer. Thank you and best to you all in your academic endeavors" ----------------------------------- I see one other person who posted the same e-mail. Has anyone else received the same?

Bioundergrad Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 It seems the majority of Rutgers anthro applicants applied to the CITE program. But i have heard very little from the Evolutionary anthro department. Has anyone obtained any news on their status pertaining to the evo anthro program at Rutgers?
persiandoc Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Hi Irishscientist, I just want to wish you the best of the bests for your Friday interview at MIT. I'll be rooting for you and don't forget you're the medanthro hero of this forum. I want you to take the revenge of all the waiting sufferers and those who have not been invited for the interview by your top-notch interview followed by a sweet acceptance, See you in NYC or Boston, Cheers,

persiandoc Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Hey anthros, Just letting you know that I just turned down my Princeton's offer of waitlist.

persiandoc Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Hi mate, Please forgive my ignorance of your plans. I'm wondering why you lean towards an Mdiv while you wanna end up an MD or medical anthropologist. Don't you think your offer from Columbia would be really cool? Actually, I've been only offered admission from NYU so far and I have yet to hear from Yale. I will go either to NH or NY but I'll definitely come to Boston a lot since I have a lot of my friends at Harvard doing various degrees from clinical post-docs to anthro to residency. It's good to hang out with some of your oldies. You're also welcome to the community of Iranian medical rascals in Boston, LOL! I don't want to be presumptuous, but I just wanted to say that just because there's not "guarantee" of getting into the PhD program after your MA doesn't mean it won't happen. I think if you make a good impression with your MA you should have no problem continuing on in the program for your PhD. But it sounds like you have some great options either way. Good luck with your decisions!

tanshp Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Just e-mailed Ned at Berkeley. Rejected. But the response was very kind and informative. I apparently made it through many cuts, was a competitive candidate, just didn't make it through the final round. Arghh. So frustrating, but at least I feel better about myself after my Michigan rejection. I wish all schools would let you know such information its more personal and less of a slap in the face then. I suggest if you haven't heard from Berkeley, send them an e-mail. But I think those who were admitted, might have been informed already. But I really thought I was a good fit for Berkeley and Michigan. Still waiting on Chicago, which I also think I fit well with, but who knows. My 'fit' for Columbia was a bit of a stretch as well as my fit for NYU.

I understand that means rejection at this point, but I can't bring myself to actually ask point blank. I'm hoping if I wait and let the rejection come later maybe I'll have more offers from other programs by then, and so it will sting less. Not that I've ever expected to get it into Berkeley--but of course that doesn't diminish how much I WANT to! Good luck with your other programs! Edited February 24, 2011 by anonthropology
Le Fleur Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 First time posting! Is anyone else Applying to the Evolutionary Anth program at Duke? Have they done the interviews yet? I haven't heard anything after the millions of status updates in Jan.
tanshp Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Hey, when did you hear from GWU? I currently go here now, applied for an MA, but I know from my adviser that they have not reviewed applications yet. I suppose maybe the Evo Anth department is different. I think they are separate from the rest of the Anth department. First time posting! Is anyone else Applying to the Evolutionary Anth program at Duke? Have they done the interviews yet? I haven't heard anything after the millions of status updates in Jan.

I haven't heard anything after the millions of status updates in Jan. Yeah, I'm also still waiting to hear from the Evo Anth department at Duke. Not a word from them thus far, and I have yet to see any notifications of interviews on the results page from this season. Looks like we're all being kept in the dark. And yeah, I got a kick out of all of duplicate status updates via email. What do you want to bet that there was some strange problem with their email system and all of our results are just floating around in email limbo?
