Rendar Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Congrats with both acceptances! What MA did you get accepted to? As for funding, I already posted what UBC tries to provide MA students, but I guess you'll have to wait 1-2 weeks for an official number. If you're doing Classics or Ancient History - Toronto might be the better option (with the exception of Susanna Braund, Roger Wilson or the NE specialists here at UBC - don't know about the religious studies aspect though). As for Archaeology, I'm actually not sure since I didn't look into Toronto for that. Congrats again and if you do decide to go to Toronto, prepare for some ice cold winters (-20 Celsius) If you're looking to do archaeology, stay far away from Toronto. Great Classics program but archaeology is definitely NOT their strong point. In fact, I don't even think it's a point there.
cranberry Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Anyone have news from Harvard? It's a long shot, but it's pretty much the only school about which I haven't heard anything.
peppermint tea Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 I was kindly rejected today by Colorado through email. Frankly, I am puzzled-- since when were they a primadonna program? I have been admitted to several other second tier programs and I don't know of any Colorado Classics PhDs in the field. It might just be fit! I still haven't heard from them! My application status is still listed as 'processing.' I guess that no news is good news (or maybe no news is simply no news).
mugcostanza Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Me too. I think it probably does come down to which applicants would fit in best at which programs and with which faculty. It was my safety. As far as the email, their application pool probably wasn't as large or competitive as they made it sound... quote name='Bill Lumberg' timestamp='1298520995' post='203687'] I was kindly rejected today by Colorado through email. aletheuein Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Anyone have news from Harvard? It's a long shot, but it's pretty much the only school about which I haven't heard anything. This is marginally pathetic, but I've been avoiding work by daydreaming today: If you look at the dates of the Harvard acceptances over the last several years, you will notice that they all occur on the last Monday or Tuesday in Feb. I take it that that probably means that the admissions committee met on the previous Friday, forwarded their recommendations to the Grad College, and received approval back on the Monday or Tuesday following. If I'm right about that, then they may have forwarded their list today, and acceptances may come out this coming Monday or Tuesday. peppermint tea and cranberry 2
peppermint tea Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 It's been nearly a month since I've heard anything--hopefully this will be the week of news a plenty!
cranberry Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I keep thinking that the longer I go between notifications, the greater the odds I'll hear from someone. What is everyone waiting on?
Batavi Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I think everyone is quiet in anticipation. It's March 1st and I'm guessing that for 90% of the applications, results are to come out between beginning and mid March. At least that's the case for me. I've been frantically checking my email and the results page.
pram Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 First time poster here. I recently discovered this site and found it both alleviated and elevated my anxiety! I am an Ancient Historian who has been accepted to Chicago (PAMW), have an interview at Michigan, and wait-listed at Stanford. I am very pleased with the Chicago acceptance and hopeful for the Michigan interview, but my first choice is definitely Stanford. Does anybody know any details about the wait-list there (length, likelihood of getting accepted once on it, etc)? Or, is anybody planning to turn down an offer from Stanford? Thanks for all the postings, it's nice to know we are in this together.

I'm guessing both will have a negative outcome since I haven't heard from either one. How did you find out about Chicago (did you email them or did you receive a 'snail' letter)?
aletheuein Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Is the Harvard admittee out there? What about the other Yale admittee?
mcfaddre Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Has anyone heard anything from Brown Classics yet?
Batavi Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Has anyone heard anything from Brown Classics yet? Interviews were held last week. Don't know more than that.
ElCielo Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 While, we're on the topic of asking for info, does anyone know where UCLA is in their process? I was waitlisted before the campus visit and I'm wondering how many they accepted and when/if they are likely to notify waitlists about a final decision. Anyone else on the waitlist there or been accepted/rejected already?
aselfmadewinter Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 For anyone else who was waiting on it, the UBC financial offers have been sent out. I got a decent offer (no pot of gold, but enough to cover expenses), though with the weird caveat that they hope to increase my funding as the spring goes on. I have no idea why or what that means, but it seems like the financial offers are going to pretty good.
LiviaAurelia Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Does anyone know anything about Vanderbilt? Hi, there. I also applied to Vanderbilt and have not yet heard a thing. Please keep me posted if you do. Best of luck!
LiviaAurelia Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Salvete, omnes! If anyone out there is wondering about Boston College, I just got an acceptance letter from them via snail mail.

corinna27 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Just got accepted to Toronto in case anyone's in the same boat - great stuff!

aselfmadewinter Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I'm still waiting for a rejection letter! What is taking so long, I haven't the faintest idea. No news is good news! You're probably waitlisted if you haven't been rejected yet, and I'm sure some people will turn their offers down. Given that acceptances went out so long ago and you haven't received a rejection letter, you probably still have a decent shot at getting in. Give it some time.
Batavi Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I'm still waiting for a rejection letter! What is taking so long, I haven't the faintest idea. I know the MA Classical Archaeology people (including myself) are still waiting for a letter with details from the department (including info on funding). - I guess they've given financial info to PhDs (@Winter) After we receive that - I think UBC expects us to accept the offer or move on after 2-3 weeks. So I think you may be looking at April before they contact the waitlist. I also mentioned that 2 people I know are going to go elsewhere and there's a third person on this forum who is probably also going to do the same. So that's 3/5 people (of MA Class Arch) who are going elsewhere and as for myself, I am waiting for other places. So there may be a complete overhaul of the entire acceptance list in April. Hang in there Gutian!
ikatticus Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Just got accepted to Toronto in case anyone's in the same boat - great stuff! Yay congrats that's awesome!!! And also kinda scary, I wasn't expecting the Canadian universities to start making decisions so soon. Mine still says under review still, but going to be checking it even more frequently now So you said you were an international student, what part of the globe are you from?

I wasn't expecting a decision this early either; such a nice surprise. Although oddly enough, my status still says "under review" as well. Clearly rather slow to update! I'm from New Zealand - it'll be a bit of a commute....
