Hey, All - first 2011 English admit is posted on the results board: Northwestern. Anyone want to claim it and/or discuss? Congratulations!!!!

Congratulations!! What are you working in?

early modern, especially dramatic literature, mostly Elizabethan but extending for certain textual traditions into the 1730s. I think the faddish term these days might be the "long 17th century" [playful roll of the eyes]. Thanks for the encouragement; am very pleased am hoping the best for everyone on here.

Also, Stanford interview emails have gone out. Do you guys think this means those not contacted for interviews there aren't getting in? unsure.gif

I'm pretty certain that's the case. Note the Stanford thread, but I emailed the grad secretary with whom I'd corresponded earlier in the season asking if the admits would be selected from the interview pool. I haven't heard back (I'll post if I do), but I think that in itself is a bad sign. I'm resolving myself for rejection. Not even an interview. Sigh. Bad sign :(

Congrats, ElectedSilence! I applied to Northwestern too, but I have received neither an accepting phone call nor a rejection email. I'm not sure what that means! Was your online application status updated to reflect your acceptance (or to those of you who received the rejection email - does your online status show that you were rejected)? My online application says nothing.

Now i'm dying to know, either way.

Congratulations ElectedSilence! I was fine before, but now I'm freakin' out! But it is nice to know that NW is on top of things. NW is an awesome school. Good luck!

I haven't received any email or letter either Gingermick. Neither does my app status say anything. I bolted to the mailbox though today after reading this post. Unfortunately the only thing in there was my Netflix DVD.

The waiting is the hardest part... actually, screw that! the application was the hardest part! :)

I received an email this afternoon telling me that I had been rejected. The email indicated that I would receive the official letter on the online application "shortly," although my online application has not yet been updated. The email also says this: "Our admissions committee in the Northwestern English department has finished reviewing the files of everyone applying for Fall 2011

admission to our doctoral program and has now made final decisions."

I received a rejection e-mail too... I can't believe this is happening so soon. It's still January!

Also, I had no idea that anywhere would do interviews. Can anyone explain to me if that's a normal practice?

As I understand it, generally speaking, it's the exception rather than the rule. I've never applied to a school that interviews potential matriculants before offering admission/funding, but I know that Notre Dame also interviews. I recall a few other programs (private, top-ranked) interviewing, but I can't recall which ones exactly.

Thanks for explaining!
