From the draft spreadsheet, it looks like some acceptances went out last week for poetry and fiction, and at least one rejection too. I did not apply there myself but was wondering recently if I should have! Could I ask what you liked about their program that made you decide to apply?

Hi everyone! I've just been accepted into The New School's Poetry program in nyc (very excited!) -- does anyone here have any insights into the university/program? I'm also still waiting on answers from Hunter and NYU but from what I'm reading here, should I assume they are rejections?

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had gotten into UChicago’s MA program and knew how funding worked. I got accepted but have no idea how I can afford the cost of attendance.

Hello

Might be a long shot, but has anyone heard back from Boise State regarding fiction? I reached out to the program a while back, and they said decisions would be coming around mid March, so it got me wondering.

Does anyone know why U of Idaho would send out an email yesterday saying this:

"Your application for admission to Creative Writing-MFA for the Fall 2025 term is currently under academic program review.

Depending on the committees’ schedule, the availability for the program, your area of focus, or waitlisting procedures, the review may take up to several months. Please allow the academic program sufficient time to thoroughly review your application. You will receive a notification once a decision has been made."

They've already done acceptances and waitlists as far as I can tell, so I assumed a soft rejection but,,, this is giving me false hope. I was WL there last year so I'm hoping for something good... Anyone else get this email? Or is anyone still waiting on them?

No, and I've been waiting on that one. I thought I missed it, and it was a soft R. That's exciting to know they said mid-March.

Thank you @prufrock_!

So when is an appropriate time to hit up professors for recc letters again? and do you think the one who responded is a lost cause or that I should try them agian?

How did you find writers workshops in your city? I'm in Philly and haven't thought to look for some here. I was actually considering starting my own this year.

Blue Stoop is based in Philly! https://www.bluestoop.org/

re: rec letters - I agree that you shouldn't go with a professor who's intermittently responding. Do you have the financial resources to take a workshop or two this year? A lot of workshops offer scholarships, too!

A previous instructor of mine told me candidly that rec letters are mostly just vibe checks, though I've heard from folks in Draft that they can make a marked difference, too.

One of my recs was from an instructor who I workshopped with last year, via Zoom (they teach independently & their rec was from a gmail url, which is generally not recommended, but it turned out okay). You can also ask a former manager to be your rec - anyone who can speak to your ability to collaborate and play well with others (ie. skills that translate to being a kind, considerate person in workshop). One of my friends even asked a coworker to write his, and it worked out for him.

Finally got my rejection letter from Iowa, and (not sure how much this matters) it was tiered—manuscript was well-received, some of whom liked it very much, hope you'll apply again—which might be something almost everyone got, but after straight rejections from my four other schools, it was nice to receive. :)

I got the standard no one liked your manuscript lol so not everyone gets it!

Bummer on the rejjie but congrats on the tier! That's a definite reapply if you go another cycle! My IWW letter was so short and flavorless last app cycle, I could've used it for joint filters.

To be fair, that application was only a tier up from joint filters itself. This year's was the green inside 💪

I'm so sorry to hear! I hope you've received good news otherwise—if not, I might see you in the forum for next year, where hopefully we'll receive more acceptances.

It's okay :) Are you officially out for the season? I still have a couple of schools so I'm hoping for good news soon.

I've got NYU, which I think is really a soft rejection at this point, and Brown, which has been keeping me on edge. I'm ever the optimist, so I've still got my hopes up for it! Hoping for good news for you too.

for me it's mississippi (my top choice so universe pls) and UNLV. Which I honestly don't think UNLV exists at this point. I'm starting to think any acceptances for it just weren't on draft.

Brown has been scaring a lot of people. Idk why they take so long.

i also got the tiered rejection. it made me a little warm and fuzzy. the way i look at it, if only the top 10% got it, that's about 100 people since about 1k apply to iww. so it makes sense a lot of people are saying they got the tiered rejection. iww also admits a lot of people, like 40? 50? so being in the top 10 is amazing considering you only need to be in the top 5% to get in (compared to top 1% elsewhere like jhu).

Eleni Sikelianos is on leave from Brown this semester so maybe that’s been holding them up a bit since she’s usually a major part of the decision… though I could be reaching since she was such a big part of my SOP

brown is on semesters not quarters

That's such a lovely way of looking at it. Hopefully, next year will see me moving up a couple percentage points :) Congratulations on your tiered rejection too!

Fingers crossed for Ole Miss. I think Brown likes being a bit of a bitch and fucking with everyone. This week's gotta be the week.

Anyone heard anything from Pittsburgh since their update email at the end of February? They're the last program I'm waiting on.

I'm still waiting on them, too. I'm hesitant to make a pest of myself by emailing them, but I might this week. I interviewed for poetry on February 7th.

The schools I haven't heard from are Boise, Brown, Mississippi, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Southern Illinois, South Carolina, WashU, and West Virginia. I know some of those would be soft rejects at this point, which is something I didn't know was a thing until I discovered this website, but I've keep them open on my spreadsheet still.
