Directors and chairs and heads and committees all change over time, so there's nothing set in stone for any of these programs re:dates imo. The only date we can really count on is april 15th  (and even that is not a hard and fast rule as much as it's a guideline)

my wild speculation is that Illinois hasn't done admissions yet and probably will next week. 50/50 that ohio has and asked people to keep quiet or by some bad luck everyone who got in aren't as plugged into these communities as we are.

I don't blame you. I check everything all the time and it's super difficult to not to want it all to be over with asap.

I feel the same way… The post application bliss from mid december-early January has went away and now i need to be put in a coma until march. Cannot keep being like: what if i don’t get in any anywhere, what then? but the answer is, i suppose as it always is, to keep going. But the waiting game is becoming less and less exciting and more dread inducing. At least we have each other though in this forum. Wishing you the best of luck as always :)

It’s weird bc why would Ohio ask people to keep quiet if all their applicants have received their results already?

I know this topic has been brought up already, but it's been a few days and I'm curious what people are thinking.

Okay, so, take this with a grain of salt -- the really fancy kind with the nice big flakes bakeries sprinkle on cookies.

I took a peek at 2024's gradcafe thread. On or around January 18 people received waitlists from UIUC. That puts this year about in line with last year's results. People were also waiting a long time to get UIUC rejections in 2024. It wasn't until January 31st when folks started getting official form rejections, nearly two weeks after initial waitlist notifications went out.

Also, I don't know if anyone saw but there is currently a UIUC acceptance for a poetry applicant on this year's Draft spreadsheet. My guess is acceptances and waitlists are already out unfortunately.

I would imagine it's the same for Ohio State. Last year they accepted on 1/16 and rejected on 1/19.

Again though, I have no insider info, big flakey salt, etc.

Do yall think we will start hearing noise next week or even over the weekend?

Might hear murmurings of interviews from Boise State and some movement on Virginia Tech and U of O. Indiana is also coming up soonish, and Pittsburgh.

Things won't really start to kick up until February though.

Virginia Tech’s deadline was just over 1 week ago, it’d be a bit fast for them no? They did have an early result last year, but their deadline was a month earlier. Most of their results from other years seem to be reported in early March or late Feb (though the data’s not the best) [specifically referencing fiction results]

Wasn't VT's deadline on 21st January this year? That's just a couple of days ago. It seems like there might or might not be interviews too, based on the automated email from the program director.

That seems likely! I just went with whichever schools I saw released results this time last year tbh. I didn't realize VT's deadline was so much later. In that case, totally agreed, it'll probably be a bit.

My last LoR was submitted yesterday, so everything that can be submitted is. I'm glad it's done. One of the worst parts was trying to get the last couple of letters in without prodding my professors too much.

Here's to another cycle after last year's disappointing one.

I'm also with you on this hope-ium. But if they're late that could also mean they got more than usual number of fiction apps this cycle. That's also a little scary.

Hopium is all we got. But I want to point out that in 2022, there weren’t any acceptances until 1/25 (made an error in my older post that said 1/22). Also, except for last year, all UIUC results have come out on Tuesdays. 👀

To ignore the slow-motion that life is in right now, I finally got around to watching House by Nobuhiko Obayashi. MAN! So wonderful. Is anyone here applying for a screenwriting program or just interested in it? I think I would make for the worst screenwriter in the history of humanity.
