stanzi Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Ya I think mine stayed firm at Jan 15 but I submitted mine early too. I just realized that two of my referees sent their letters directly to the department so I emailed them making sure my app is complete. They confirmed that it was and added "your application has been passed on to the Admissions committee for review, we will contact you if we need anything further". So yeah I won't be bothering them again and I'm going to try not to obsess cause it sounds as if they haven't decided or mailed anything.
PrettyVacant Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Nooo idea, but the woman (who has been incredibly nice throughout this process—it's wonderful that they have such great people running these emails) said that they would send me an Email with an offer as soon as they heard back from some other people. I don't know what that indicates about where I stand, but I'm interpreting it as a reason to be optimistic! And that's exciting! Good luck. At least you can breathe easy this weekend. Definitely! Regardless of the outcome, I know next week I'll be free. No more waiting! I can't wait... It really does sound like you have a good shot at UoT. They seem to admit a lot of people off the waitlist, so you definitely have good reason to be optimistic! Good luck and keep us posted on York!
NoMoreABD Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) So... Now that I did contact the program and they didn't give me any time frame for a decision nor a hint on a waitlist, and now that I know other people were rejected, should I contact the POI and ask where things stand? Or do I just WAIT SOME MORE? [i mean, most chances are that the POI will tell me to contact the program, which I already did. But if I'm on a waitlist, I want to show interest] Edited April 3, 2011 by Foreign Guy

I think the fact that you haven't been rejected is enough to be optimistic . They could be trying to secure funding, etc. Putting pressure on your POI is probably not gonna help. Be patient. I know it's hard stanzi 1
prongster Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I just heard back from York and it wasn't good news. Good luck to everyone else.

Henry Hudson Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Anyone else waiting for an answer from York U?? Ive applied for the PHD Political Science. Its my top choice and im completely losing my mind! Also, what about SFU? Why are Canadian Universities so so slow?! Someone help. Is anyone else also still waiting? Has anyone received a response from the political science departments of York or SFU?? I was accepted at SFU (History PhD) back in February. There are 2-3 other SFU acceptees around these boards, in other programs, too. But I guess not all programs are on the same schedule there.
Henry Hudson Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I had applied to York 2 years ago for my MA. They didn't get back to me until late March, and even then, we played phone tag for a week or two.

poliscijunkie Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 FYI SFU hopefuls: I emailed the grad secretary (Political Science dept) in terms of my status and got an autoreply she is away from her email from march 25 - april 6.

stanzi Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Apologies for not seeing this sooner. I called the program and they Emailed me yesterday. No probs- I'm still waiting. I've come to terms with the wait and this week I've been pretty good at not obsessing! At this stage in the game it doesn't look to good... but here's hoping!
poliscijunkie Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 hi all, just found out that SFU has done first found poli sci. currently doing second round MA. hope this helps!
NoMoreABD Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hello again to everyone, I'm sorry if I sound like a broken record... It has been two weeks (!) since the program replied to my email inquiry, with nothing but "we're still deciding, keep checking website", ignoring my question concerning a waitlist. So I don't even know where things stand, if a waitlist exists and if I'm on it, or if they really haven't finished deciding. Is now the time to contact the POI? I'm really getting paranoid that they forgot about me, although I know it's probably impossible. Is there anything I can do? I want to show interest, to make a sound. I mean, I know usually the POI can't do anything about it, but what if they can? I want to make sure I'm not giving up on this. Thanks in advance for any advice

Are you applying to a masters or PhD at York? If you are waiting on a PhD I don't really have a lot of good news. I have a few friends who have applied to various programs and they already heard 2-3 weeks ago that they were accepted. I know this probably won't help, but I think this was a TERRIBLE year to apply to York. No matter how awesome you are on paper and how much your department might want you, there just aren't many PhD spaces to go around. Apparently York has been over admitting PhDs in the past, so while FGS says they have "reduced incoming numbers slightly" most of the other grad students I talk to report that their PhD intakes have been reduced by half. Some programs have decided to not admit any international students this year either (another cost saving measure). And of course we had more drama about FGS no longer mandating that all base funding packages be equal. Bad timing all around
NoMoreABD Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Current York PhD student here. Thanks for the info. Sent you a message.
viciousxp Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 Rejected from SFU PHD Political science.. Emailed to Ask. I was told that too many faculty were retiring this year with no replacements. From what I understood, the intake this year will be only 1 or 2 students. Still waiting on York, my last uni, I dont have high hopes tho. I emailed them yesterday and I am waiting for a reply. Getting my CV ready for job hunting I guess... lame.
stanzi Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Congrats! I'm happy for you. It feels like I'm going to be the very last one to hear from York... nope im with you
