Yeah I applied for Whitaker as well. I believe we were supposed to know "end of March." I can't handle the suspense!! Although no one else at my school had heard back either so I am not sad about it yet. I called Sabeen a few times last week but always got her message machine :-\

My friend heard about the summer Whitaker but not the full year one yet. I am thinking we will be hearing mid next week! I guess I will have to keep doing work and try not to think about it. :)

Hello all you lovely Fulbrighters and future Fulbrighters,

Long time lurker, first time poster here and I break my silence because I come bearing news for all you Turkey ETA people out there. Another Fulbright finalist and myself got in contact with Rachel the other day and she told us notifications would probably be sent out in.... wait for it.... 1-2 months (yes, months! and yes, we almost fainted as well). Feeling utterly depressed we decided to contact the Fulbright people in Ankara. The women in Ankara told us that they have not yet finished the selection process, but that they hope to finish it very soon. Once they finish, their decisions must then travel through the bureaucratic channels of the Turkish education system and then, finally, we will be notified. But dont despair just yet, at the end she told us that they hoped this process would only take 1-2 more weeks!

So, long story short... it could be anywhere between 1 week and 2 months! lol

But, I think it will be more around the 1-2 week timeframe (or at least my sanity hopes so).

Cheers!

This makes me wonder why it takes 5-6 months for the Turkish Fulbright Commission to make their decisions. I think an effective solution would be for the whole Commission to take shots of Turkish coffee and then get everything done in one sitting.

I wonder why the discrepancy between full and ETA for Turkey. Or, at least the discrepancy I hope exists between full and ETA...

Weren't they incredibly late last year, too? If my regression for Turkey turns out to be true, the whole amusement thing will be lost quite quickly. I feel like they should have figured it out a little bit by now

I would just like to say that I love your username, kankı. My whole life revolves around Turkey / Middle East and I would have applied to Turkey had I felt my Turkish was good enough haha.

Hi all,

Coming out of lurkdom to ask if anyone here has heard ANYTHING further about the Austria USTA program. I know the Fulbright not selected/alternate emails went out first, but it's been a week since some people were notified that they didn't get it. (I don't know if anyone's heard about being an alternate - anyone heard anything?) It just seems very strange that they'd wait so long between letters.

Congratulations to everyone who's heard good news, and good luck to everyone still waiting!

I AM GOING TO ROMANIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations! Chalk one up for Michigan! Let's hope it's a good sign for the rest of us.

Me too!!! I try to keep telling myself we won't find out until late April, but it doesn't appear to be helping very much.....

I was telling myself that too, but then I thought email notifications might speed things up a bit. On top of that, Australia heard way earlier this year- which means I'm constantly checking my email :). What part of NZ are you hoping to go to? Have you ever been there before? Best of luck to you!

Thank you tunnels!

This makes me think that they have decisions, but are just "working to get the notifications out." Let's pretend that's the case. That means this week or next. I wonder if the Ash Wednesday/Good Friday/ Easter holiday(s) are going to interfere.

I don't know anything much about these holidays, but they sure seem to jam up the public transit in my area.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe another poster emailed Pam about the Caribbean last week and she said that the Caribbean commission has yet to notify with their decisions... But maybe (*hopefully*) they responded between now and then? That would be spec-tacular!

I have yet to hear anything yet either. Do you know anyone who got rejected? I've only read about one on this forum, but that's it. Hopefully soon, I don't think I can play this waiting game any more!

Thanks so much for looking into it, but I'm definitely not surprised by the 1-2 months thing. I, too, hope it's only 1-2 more weeks, but that seems doubtful. The reason they heard so late last year (June 10th) is because they had funding issues, which I guess is strange considering they gave 10 additional grants beyond the 50 advertised on the Fulbright site. Supposedly there were some other issues with universities renewing their contracts or something like that, too. Hopefully all that isn't a problem this year, but I still think it'll likely be another month before we hear. =/

Hi all. Just to touch base for other folks waiting to hear from sub Saharan Africa regional countries--- I touched base with Jermaine last Friday and he said that they hadn't yet alerted Fulbright to their choices! He didn't sound terribly optimistic but figured that if the process were similar to the past couple of years, notifications would be made by mid-late April....

fingers crossed!~

Anybody know, then, how long it takes Fulbright to send out notifications once they're given the region's choices? According to the spreadsheet, SSA has pretty regularly gone out during the second week of April, so I've been thinking next week??

Re: Morocco/MENA

I applied for a full fellowship last year and made it past the first committee review. I didn't receive the rejection until about April 18th (via courrier though). I decided to resubmit my proposal this year, since I knew it was successful the first time around. I'm under the impression that we'll probably hear back around the same time.

I know it is nerve-wrecking to patient. However, having been rejected once makes it much more easier to prepare for an unsatisfactory response, although, I am more prepared and hopeful this year.

Thank you so much for this post!

I am really nervous that I will be so close, and then get rejected.

Including your proposal, did you keep everything else the same in your application this year?

Are you a graduate student?

thanks!

I'm sure that there is a better way to spend my lunch breaks than obsessively checking this forum.... perhaps maniacally tapping on my email refresh button?

31 countries down, 41 to go.

C'mon big money. No whammies, no whammies.... STOP!

Muwhahaha!!! I was going through the last few pages for the spreadsheet and saw this post... Perhaps I could distract myself with old game shows like that one! Those were the days.

I am going to model bone ingrowth into orthopaedic implants. There is a research group that specializes in this at Radbound University.

What is your plan of study/research? Where will you be located?

Wow. That sounds fantastic. I've proposed to do a 9 month MSc in Conflict Resolution and Governance at the University of Amsterdam. My focus (broadly) involves women in post-conflict zones as they recover from human rights abuses.

I know what you mean...I haven't heard anything else either! Sometimes I wonder if my application got lost in the mail....nooooo

But we have to wait it out, fellow Austria USTA applicants! Glad to know I'm not alone in the nervous waiting...though to be honest, i was pretty easy going about all of this until I found this board! Then the nervous jitters passed on down to me haha

Did you get the confirmation e-mail from them a while ago? If you did, then no need to worry about it being lost in the mail!

Has anyone heard anything about Italy? Based on the spreadsheet of past notification dates, this could/should be the week.

Still nothing :(

Waiting on USTA as well, not very hopeful though, but we are supposed to be hearing by the 15th the latest. As of now, we know that at least one person has received a rejection via email.

Hmmm I wonder if they send out all of the rejections first and then move on to the acceptances/alternates? Ehhh, I don't want to get my hopes up too much...but I wish we could hear some feedback from past Austria USTA-ers!
