regarding who sends out notifications - one of the applicants from my uni received an email about the EU from someone in the host country, not the IIE - she was an alternate.. so if you get an email from a name other than IIE make sure to pay attention to it in case it's the golden ticket!

I've been lurking here for a couple of days and it's good to know everyone else is feeling a bit antsy about the wait. It doesn't help that I'm on spring break--I try to stay busy around the house and stuff, but I keep coming back to my computer to check my email, arggh! Here's hoping that the Germany ETAs find out this week!

I'm wondering if they are holding back on the Europe/Eurasia ETAs so that they can notify all at once. I only suggest this because it is the first year for a lot of smaller countries (Luxembourg, Cyprus, etc) so maybe they want to see if Luxembourg needs to steal a France applicant, or Cyprus a Greece applicant... just a thought! We haven't heard of any European ETAs yet, right? Just Latin America?

ETAs might be more difficult since they have to deal with educational bureaucracies of individual countries, especially with the more rigid and at the same time fragmented system that exists in Germany. Also, the second stage of the acceptance for Germany is very very late (less than a month ago was the due date)

Okay I can't remember if we know this or not.....does that mean the late date for Germany this year was unusually late? Or about the same as it usually is? Because last year notification went out to ETAs the 1st of April, and the year before a week sooner than that. If the second stage is around the same time as usual then it shouldn't really change things, but if the due date for our PAD info was later than the past two years, I guess Germany ETA hopefuls should relax at least until the first or second week of April :(

I read somewhere that last year's PAD application and such were due February 28 (a Monday). Ours were due March 1 (a Thursday), so not much of a difference. I can't seem to find any information on the 2010-2011 forums about the PAD (but I did see they received their finalist status later than us). I wish they could be a bit more clear on when we would find out, rather than the "relatively soon" comment someone received in an E-mail response last Thursday.

Mexico peeps, did you get this too?

"Dear xx, This email is to inform you of the final steps of the selection process for the 2012-2013 Fulbright-García Robles U.S. Student Grant. The results from the interview process that you participated in via Skype will be discussed by our Academic Committee next week. Once a final selection has been made in Mexico the results will be sent to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in Washington D.C. for final approval. We estimate having the final results by mid- April. The Institute of International Education will contact you about you candidature as soon as the FSB gives final approval. We kindly ask that you please be patient. Saludos and all the best of luck to you, Esther M. RamosU.S. Grantee Program Officer"

Mid-April?? ARgggH! I swear they said 3/23 when I had my interview!

I did get that notice, as well. It was the most violent acceleration in my pulse I've experienced in a long time. At least before there was a D-day. Now my inbox could send me into the highest highs or lowest lows any time.

It also comes down to how many people were recommended. Fulbright says anywhere between 1.5 to 2x, we had the full 280 (damn it!) so perhaps there are more people to consider and thereby shift through.

If you don't mind my asking TheodPliske, how do you know exactly how many applicants were named finalists for your grant program? I'm competing for one of three grants (down one from last year :() and while knowing how many applications were forwarded to the host country review board wouldn't do me any good, being one of four sounds a lot better than one of six.

Did you by any chance apply to Lithuania? If so, you know there's at least two of us! ;)

Continuing to feel nauseous every time I see a white-ish envelope in the mailbox. Just bills and maid service adverts. Damn it!

And up yours, too, mystery e-mails. I wish there was a filter for everything except what you want to hear about. (Ahem *Fulbright*).

Long time lurker on this forum, but I finally have some information that I thought would be helpful to share with the group. I applied to the Norway ETA program, and during my interview, one of the panel members said that 7 people had been recommended. Norway is projected to have 2 ETA positions available for 2012-2013, so I guess the 1.5 to 2x number is flexible if your particular program is a really small one.

That is helpful info! Part of me wishes I knew how many finalists there are, and part of me just thinks it would drive me crazy. Nothing to do but wait.

http://www.aminef.or...d-of-management

This is the board of management for the Fulbright (administrator, AMINEF) in Indonesia. As you can see, there are Americans and Indonesians on there - my feeling is that the highest priority for being appointed to the Indonesian board is expertise in Indonesia, its needs and who would best fulfill those needs within the mission of the Fulbright program. The Fulbright in Vietnam is administered by the Public Affairs Office of the American Embassy in Hanoi - I would be surprised if their board is not similarly comprised.

In my personal statement for the Fulbright ETA application I wrote about my experience teaching in rural Thailand, and my language skills in Vietnamese. I also wrote about my high interest in learning Vietnamese music and the ancient Chinese based writing system.

I feel like a more American dominant panel would want to see results, which, hopefully, my years of volunteer teaching/tutoring will come into play. If it's more Vietnamese, then they might want to see more of a cultural aspect, which my interest in the arts and language will benefit me. Whatever it is they're looking for, I just hope that luck will sway towards me so that I can come back to the place I was born and create an impact as a Vietnamese American!

Hey!

Can't one of you nerdy number-crunchers figure out what days of the week we are most likely to receive our notifications?????????

(no offence intended to any of the hard-working number-crunchers here, of course)

I think we can safely assume that when somebody adds "no offense" to a sentence, we can be pretty sure it's going to offend someone, lol. Try an alternative like, "Can someone please..." It's a more appropriate--and respectful--way to request something. :)

Wow- not a single informed candidate on this forum today, the 20th of March (right?).... I am really hoping to hear some news by this Friday!
