jackassjim Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 What exactly does scintille mean? Is that french? It is french, and it means to shine "quickly/intermittently", as in "a flickering light"," une lumi
mormegil Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I hope that you are right. Not everyone uses gradcafe, so we are only seeing a sample of the overall lot. True. But I guess we still have hope. Mayhaps they have notified the 'top' applicants.
natofone Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I'm hoping that they've only notified one particular subfield (theory).
scintille Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I'm hoping that they've only notified one particular subfield (theory). Noooo not theory. So are they probably done with theory?
natofone Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I have no clue. I am just hoping that they aren't done with the main batch of acceptances.
mormegil Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I'm hoping that they've only notified one particular subfield (theory). Exactly my thoughts.
oscarwildebeest Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I'm hoping that they've only notified one particular subfield (theory). And I'm hoping they've still got a little bit'a theory love left in'em.
oscarwildebeest Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Noooo not theory. So are they probably done with theory? Oh, calm down, you. No one here is any position to do more than speculate. They may well be done with our kind, or they may be admitting several more. Unfortunately, they don't seem real keen on notifying their rejects, so you and I and ours just have to decide how long we want to keep our fingers crossed.
plisar Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I don't think "oh calm down" is a necessary thing to say. She's perfectly within her right to react however she'd like...
rlayla Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 We all need to smoke a virtual joint right now.
oscarwildebeest Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Clearly this is going to be a nervy week.
swr22 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Yeah, I don't think anyone here would have any interest in upsetting anyone, so perhaps we should just all take a deep breath before leaping to conclusions. Anyway, how about them Red Sox, eh?
scintille Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Was anyone else hoping to get into Duke so they could spend spring break somewhere warm? Just a little bit?
jamesmadison Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Yeah, why didn't I apply to U of Hawaii?
poliscidude Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Well, looks like another Rutgers acceptance has been posted...and it's not me. My status still says "no decision." Still nothing from UVA and I assume I'm rejected from Chicago. I wish rejection notices would go out at the same time. They could at least have the decency to give the rejects a timely answer as well so we can get on with our lives.
cjh19 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 High Noon...waitin' on UNC! Cue tumbleweeds and nervous townsfolk.
mormegil Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 First rejection. Emory. Got an e-mail from the admissions director. I was high on this one. So hurts a bit.
PoliSci Guy Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 First rejection. Emory. Got an e-mail from the admissions director. I was high on this one. So hurts a bit. I'm really sorry to hear that, mormegil...FYI, I'm waiting on Emory too so your post has raised my heart rate to about 130.
catchermiscount Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Oh man, Duke is going to Yale people (myself included apparently). That is officially not nice. Applyyourself my ass!
mormegil Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I'm really sorry to hear that, mormegil...FYI, I'm waiting on Emory too so your post has raised my heart rate to about 130. Thanks. I'm sure the admissions gods will shine on you. I was half-expecting this one as my undergrad grades are terrible, especially math grades and Emory is one of the more quantitatively focused programs, I believe? Well, for me, this rejection sounds warning bells for JHU, NWU and UChicago (which is a goner already) at least.
