gellert
Anyone know how common it is for interview invites to arrive (via email or phone) over weekends?
saltlakecity2012
I experienced fatigue at 8, so I can only imagine how exhausting it must be to turn in 18. Regarding when we might start hearing back - I have found it helpful to look back on the admissions results posted here: http://www.thegradca...cal%29&t=a&o=d. I think that the dates from last year could be used as a rough guide for this year. That said, others might be able to provide better guidance. Thank you! And yes, yes... I've just scrapped number 18, a school I honestly don't think I would be content to attend. #12 due tomorrow, #13 due Tuesday, and then a bit of a break. I've come to the depressing realization that I will start hearing back from schools before my final deadline.

Sarahmarie
I got a similar mail from "The Admission Team" of an institute offering classes wishing me a happy New Year. Though it went to my spam folder, I have not deleted it. I know not why. OMFG I have not even been checking my spam folders! I just spit hot cocoa all over my key board! Back in a sec to let you know if I find anything~ Nope...nothing! *palmslap to forehead* how could I have forgotten my spam folder?!?!?!? gradapp2012
Come on guys, there have been times people have missed important mails, because they didn't check their spam mail, okay? So maybe we need to add important email addresses to the address book to avoid mail from such addresses going to spam ( I have already added gradadmissions@xyz.edu addresses for all universities I applied to , to my address book , but am not sure that those will be the only email addresses I might be getting the all-important mail from). At the same time, when we do check the spam mail, we know which mails to open by looking at the subject and sender , right?
edost
I check my spam every day now. I never knew there were so many different kinds of viagra-type pills before. Makes me think I shouldn't seek a Ph.D. but an MD with a urology specialty instead!
wlkwih2
:D I have that "OH NOT YOU AAAARGH I DON'T CARE" moment every time I receive an e-mail, even if it's an important one. Just give me the admission ones, so I don't freak out. edost

I was just trying to be lighthearted, but in all seriousness I did once miss an internship opportunity because the reply landed in my spam folder. Now I check the folder every few days before deleting everything, just to be sure. gradapp2012
gradapp2012
So, do you plan to help the poor (or should I say rich) Nigerian prince? CanuckBoy
Haha, I knew someone who replied to that asking how much he can get as a joke. The response was even wittier. Today I got one of those "your bank account security has been compromised and we require you to give us personal info for authentication purposes.". marlowe
So, do you plan to help the poor (or should I say rich) Nigerian prince? There might be something in it for you too When I was living in London, I had no internet at my flat, and I spent a lot of time in the local public library. I once witnessed an actual Nigerian man composing one of those Nigerian scams - it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I was on the computer next to him, and I was watching him out of the corner of my eye. It was complete with all of the epistolary scam conventions, and it took every ounce of composure that I had not to burst into uncontrollable hysterical laughter. Also, a guy I know on another forum got into an extended email exchange with one of these scammers that included scanned passports, driver's licenses, family photographs - all posted for our viewing pleasure, of course. It was hilarious how much this guy could get the scammer to believe while feeding him absolute bullshit (at the level to even rival the scammer's own). Absolutely brilliant stuff. I totally needed that, thanks for posting As a Social Worker, I've had my share of clients who have fallen for this type of scam. It's nice to see someone giving a little back! radioalfredio
So, I've finally completed all of my applications, and now I'm waiting it out as well. Eek! One of my universities had a Dec.1st deadline, so the results board says that they might contact applicants for interviews around the 15th. The other schools seem to contact applicants from mid-Feb to mid-March. It's going to be a long couple of months. Since I'm here, I have a question for y'all. Two of my universities say that they're missing my GRE scores and transcripts, but another university has received all of these materials (and they were all mailed on the same day). I'm not really concerned because I figure that the universities are just busy and not updating those websites. Am I being too relaxed here? I've heard that most/some/a few departments will contact me if my materials haven't reached them after the deadline, but really, I think they should be there since I mailed them over a month ago, but just submitted my app within the last week. Ok...so I am freaking out a little bit. It's nice to be able to vent with people who are going through the same thing!
edost
Even if they got your transcripts and scores before you submitted your application, it might take a few days after you apply until they match everything. I'm in the same situation in a few places, and I'm waiting until at least seven business days pass before I e-mail them about it.
