Applying to as many as I did was exhausting and expensive. But after applying last year and only getting waitlisted, its what I wanted to do for this year. I dont think there is any right way to do it. some people only apply to 2 schools and get into the school of their dreams, others apply to 10 schools they love and are rejected everywhere.

I think we are all second guessing our process because of how nerve wrecking it is to wait. I mean I'm anxious too and I applied to so many!

In the end all that matters is that you applied to schools you are really excited about. Waiting is hard, but hopefully it will work out!

I'm satisfied with my 4 apps, personally. Not hearing back from SAIC (although we still might? but I've given up hope for that one) made me accutely aware of how much cash I forked over for their rejection. I couldn't have afforded to double my number, although I easily could have come up with 4 more schools that I'd be honored to attend.

Yeah, spending 80 dollars to get a rejection letter/complete silence has quite a bit of sting. Especially when work is slow and it would have been nice to have spent the cash on groceries. I also found it a lot more difficult than I had expected to get fee waivers from schools- Iowa was the only University of oblige me.

I think Iowa is the one school I really regret not applying to.

That deadline is just at Columbia right? I didn't see a FAFSA deadline at any of the schools I applied to. I know I should do it, but it's just so boring and I'm finally working on art again now that all of the application hoopla is over. I have my taxes done, I just need to log in and punch in all of the info:/

What I've gleaned from most graduate school websites is that it is best for you to complete your FAFSA as soon as you can. It expedites the financial award process.

Hey guys,

Just an update-- today I got an email from UCLA new genres with an interview request!

I'm applying from abroad though, so I'm not sure what their timeline is like. Maybe they're doing skype interviews separately? I guess this means applicants will hear soon?

Congrats! I was under the impression that UCLA didn't hold interviews for studio art, but looks like I was wrong.

From what I remember from the info session, they only interview if they have questions to ask. They're interested if you get an interview, but I don't think they're necessarily not interested if you don't.

That's really good to know, thanks! Do you know more about the program? I actually don't know that much about it, like how many students are in the department or how often crits are. I have the impression that you work relatively autonomously.

New Genres accepts 3 I believe. As far as working autonomously, it's pretty similar to a lot of other grad schools I've looked into - You're constantly around your peers because of the studios and have access to all of the faculty, regardless of their concentration. Not sure about the number of crits per week, etc, but it's def a do-your-thang, not-for-lazies type of program, which I think is fairly standard? The faculty's super solid, so if you're into their work, it'll be good for you. I work for a visiting faculty member who's totally amazing, and he's into it. I feel like the technical info on classes, etc will be on the website somewhere. Good luck!

"New Genres accepts 3 I believe." Ugh, that makes my stomach hurt a little bit. Even Columbia takes around 10!

Thanks @fine mess... I saw that on last year's forums too, but just wanted to double check!

good luck to everyone!

I received an email from Bard once they got all my transcripts saying that they wouldn't notify anyone until around mid-February. So that February 20th date is probably pretty accurate. Good luck!
