MJ5 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 February is purgatory. I have gotten no responses from any schools. some days i think that's good, that means i'm still in the running. Some days, i just want to cry because obviously, i've been rejected everywhere and they're waiting to tell me. ARG. i feel exactly the same way
-hermes- Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Ok, I'm not that obsessed. i'll check the results survey and my email fairly frequently, but I'm not going to let it eat every waking second, Just most of them, haha. I go through phases, haha. I don't expect to hear anything until March, so I'm not checking my email or the results survey. But I can't help looking at the forum (and now twitter ) to see what's happening with other folk. Masochistic!
sansao Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 February 22, no news is good news, right?
Inspired10 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Regarding the Twitter thing, whoever thought about that, I give you props!!
omigoshlolz Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 So glad some of you feel the same. No response = sometimes feel safe, sometimes have panic attack. PLEASE MAKE IT STOP! ahhh. :\
mallorn Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Still no word from my schools, while my sister who is applying to a different field has already heard from 3. Ugh. On one hand, I think that having no word is slightly better than rejections because at least there's still hope, but I really want to know the results so I can start planning and thinking about my next moves in life, whether accepted or all rejected. I really hope that all of my schools use email to notify and not snail mail, which can take weeks to arrive to my side of the world.
slate Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 It doesn't help that my boyfriend's aunt and uncle are both renowned university professors with PhD's. I made the mistake of mentioning at a family gathering that I was applying to MPH programs; apparently I showed that I was nervous. Their responses were along the lines of '*dismissive sound* you will get into grad school!' Not entirely helpful, given that the uncle is the recipient of a research grant worth a dollar amount with way too many zeros and I am but a clod. Should have told them about it after getting accepted (if I get accepted?). Anyhoo...need sleep now.
Hope. Feathers. Insanity. Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 February didn't seem so long at the beginning of it... Now, it is interminable. When will they stop the torture?
espresso_eyes Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Must.Be.Patient.......Must.Remain.Calm...........ugh
kaister Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I keep hoping that I'll hear back at least before March 1. But reality is I probably won't and then I'll begin the torturous month of March still not knowing. Even if I am rejected by all my schools, if I could at least have March to not be stressing about this, I would be okay with the rejections, at least it would be done with and I could move on with my life...
sansao Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Must.Be.Patient.......Must.Remain.Calm...........ugh I second that, haha. The upside is that my programs haven't really sent out notifications yet. The downside is that my programs haven't really sent out notifications yet. cacao to cacao 1
kad0110 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 The worst part is that some schools even hold out until end of March-early April >.< and then the wait goes on for even longer if wait listed. I graduated in May from undergrad at UF and I remember everyone hearing back from different schools the week after Spring break. One of my friends was wait listed and didn't find out that she was accepted of the list until May!!!!!! This process is so Insane!
shaxmaty1848 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Im trying to detox from compulsively checking for as long as possible. My goal is 2 weeks, but who knows.
MJ5 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 arggg I'm starting to think that they wont even bother to send me a letter at all. I'll just have to assume that no letter means no acceptance
We regret to inform you Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 arggg I'm starting to think that they wont even bother to send me a letter at all. I'll just have to assume that no letter means no acceptance A few years ago when i was applying for the masters program i am currently wrapping up I applied to several schools and a couple of them made no effort to notify me at all, nor did they have a website where i could check my status. I had to finally call these places up in late april (later than the april 15 deadline) to get a decision. I consider this to be incredibly rude considering each application takes a lot of time and money on our part. The least they could do is have the department secretary send out a generic email saying "We appreciate your interest in our program. Unfortunately we've had to turn down several qualified applicants such as yourself. We wish you the best of luck." That's a whole lot better than NOTHING. Also, I'd like to add that i believe rejection letters should be polite. The one rejection letter I received this week included one particular sentence that i found to be kind of mean: "Your academic record was not competitive with that of other applicants to this department." Did they really have to rub it in and tell me that not only did I not get accepted but that I didn't even have a shot? That's kind of cruel. trina 1
shaxmaty1848 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Am I the only one who feels like if you dont get notified you should get your money back? Idk it's like, if I pay to have my application processed, and you cant even reject me, what did I pay for? Makes me wonder if anyone at all even looked at my application. (I obviously understand they would never give anyone their money back and they have their secret voodoo methods of admitting people, but still) trina 1
Kudrov Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) I actually had a program admit to losing my application materials a few years ago. I called them in Mid-April to ask about their decision, and, after a long pause, was told "We remember seeing your application...did you never receive any response?" I eventually was informed that the folder ended up in a professor's desk drawer. Requests for an application fee refund were met with indifference. I've also received the exact sentence about my "academic record not being competative" before. However, my "favorite" response of this nature is the university (which shall remain nameless) that sends out an e-mail entitled "(University Name)- Deny Letter." Historically, this e-mail also comes at fairly late hours (I got mine a little after 10 PM). There's no feeling quite like checking your e-mail right before you get in bed to see that title line. That should involve much raising of hell and the use of voodoo. Seriously. Stulti incendendi sunt.
Kudrov Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I took it in stride. I got an offer from my top choice between when they told me of my missing application and when the details of what had happened came out, so I didn't see a reason to put up a fight about it after my initial request to have my application fee refunded was denied.
MJ5 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 (edited) o_O!! does anybody know if USC is the kind of university that wouldnt send a rejection letter? Edited February 26, 2012 by MJ5
sansao Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 I am thoroughly exhausted and having a major case of "I don't wanna do anything," lately. It feels like everything is really late, but it's still only February, so I guess I should relax. On the other hand, it's STILL February, ugh.
