beeswax Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Hey- does anyone know anything about Princeton? When their weekend is, etc?
migrationdude Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Rumor has it that their stipends are pretty good. I have no idea about weekends though.
beeswax Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 Okay- I am really eager to hear more! I really liked this program and applied to the joint public policy and sociology program. Did anyone else? the letter didn't say anything about the joint policy program.
international Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 were u contacted before the official letter by your potential adviser? and another question for migrationdude- are you considered to be an international student or you have residency stat? thanks... and congrats to both of you!
migrationdude Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 To answer your questions, No, I wasn't contacted by anyone but the DGS. Yes, I am international. I'm in the US on an F-1 Visa and a "Non-Resident Alien;" kind of what got me into thinking about studying migrations, although part of me is drifting away from that now -- nevermind my username.
rejectedloser Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Congrats to those who got in!!! Do you guys think Princeton contacted everyone on the same day? This was my dream school, though I had a pretty good idea I'd get rejected (still sucks though ) Oh, and since I suspect the same people get into the same top schools, do you think they might accept others a little later, once some people decline offers? Or will they just admit less people this year if people decline? I need some ray of hope... but be truthful if you think it's over!
tryffelgris Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Based on last year's results on this site, I'd say it's probably over. Two people were admitted one day and then everyone else was rejected the next day, it seems. Sadly.
rejectedloser Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Alright I'm moving to Canada... What a sad week.
chillinlikeavillain Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 oh man, rejectedloser!!! what a ridiculous screen name, haha!!! don't give up...this application process is brutal and everyone (well, almost everyone) gets burned somehow did you apply to a range of schools (very difficult ones to get into and some safer bets?)
rejectedloser Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Hah yeah I applied to harvard, princeton, and he University of Phoenix But I haven't heard anything from UofP yet either; that's really my dream school.
hardboiledegg Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Who heard from Princeton this morning? Are you east coast?
jpf1282 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 there seems to be activity from princeton sociology, has anyone else heard anything?
hoobers Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Yes, and somebody posted another Harvard accept, apparently without an interview. Call me a cynic, but these unexpected simultaneous posts seem fishy to me.
hardboiledegg Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 First rejection! ! saw this one coming. breathe and move on.
samoth Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Well, DiMaggio has spoken. Thank God I already have an acceptance from another school.
ejuliast Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Got rejected too... I'm not particularly broken up about it. I can honestly say that I wouldn't have a clue with whom I would have worked over there! Chances are pretty good that they saw that in my application as well...
samoth Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I had several ideas for potential advisors and I tried to contact them before applying. Responses were chilly, so I guess this could have been expected.
Sociologist Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I also contacted a potential advisor (the best fit for my doctoral research) and all I got was a freezing answer. I don't even know why I still bothered to apply. Of course, I've been rejected.

Well, I guess the moral of the story is that when American professors say "I'm looking forward to reading your application" what they actually mean is "Don't hold your breath".
xuerenmei Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Hey- does anyone know anything about Princeton? When their weekend is, etc? I applied for Princeton, but I haven't got any news from it yet. I called them on Feb.13. They said the graduate coordinater was out and did not send any decision out. I called them again on Feb. 16 when I saw many students posted their admission info online. After asking my name, the graduate coordinater did not say anything but directed me to call graduate school. And then I called Graduate School, but they said I should contact the department to get the info... I am confused that first, on Feb. 13, someones posted admission info online but the department said they did send out anything, and second, why the graduate coodinater did not tell me the decision when I called her on Monday. Is it over, like somebody said? ...
chillinlikeavillain Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Does anyone know when Princeton's visiting days are?
emmadoodle Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Is anyone else STILL waiting the hear from Princeton? I know a bunch of acceptances and rejections were already sent a while ago, but I was curious if anyone else was in limbo.
deckard Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Does anyone know how the Princeton sociology faculty fares in social network analysis? Their culture and institutional areas of focus are very strongly represented (DiMaggio, Zelizer, etc), but I'm not so sure about networks. Has anyone taken network courses in Princeton sociology?
Anonposter84 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Id say networks is quickly becoming one of princetons strengths (in addition to dimaggio and zelizer, check out salganik, beldassari, ruef and lynch...)
