It had been over a month since I had received my acceptance e-mail from GT, which said I would be receiving an admissions packet within two weeks. I called the school and they told me that Georgetown does not even send out admissions decisions via email, which caused me to freak out because I thought maybe it was a hoax of some sort (it wasn't - the grad admissions office apparently has no contact with the GPPI admissions office, and I did get in). Then there was this fiasco with the financial aid - they said I'd hear within a week of submitting this essay, then 3 weeks letter I get a scholarship.

I finally got my admissions packet in the mail YESTERDAY, and I was admitted on February 5! I'm sure GT is a great school, but I am not impressed with the admissions process. Further, they gave me only $5K....there is no way I can afford that. :|

I think they are pretty disorganized and I have seen a lot of disorganized things in my days. I was out with some Georgetown students last night and forgot to ask them what they though of the GPPI admissions folks.

Anyways, I contacted the G-town Admissions office yesterday and they NOW said we are suppose to hear back on Monday, March 23 in who gets in or not. So hopefully that happens...Anyone care to place their bets or wages?!?

I just think is crazy how some people have not heard a pep yet and especially with their open houses around the corner. Luckily if I get in, I am not that far from DC in order to attend.

But I think it is terrible how I don't hear anything. I sent them various emails and I know they get a ton of them...but I never once got a response execpt for one of them when I did not execpt to get one.

The schools that I have been accepted to and other schools that I have not found out yet have been in constant communications with me. Not sure what the deal is with Gtown? :(

Are you talking about straight up admissions? There are still people who haven't been admitted yet or are you refering to the second wave of scholarship considerations?

Dude I'd be thrilled with $5K, I just can't believe they asked for a statement and now they're putting it off week after week and leaving us hanging after saying we'd hear back this week. And we can't even necessarily expect to hear back because they originally said only people receiving aid will get an email. And Duke is not going to offer me more aid unless Gtown offers me some! Gah, so frustrating!!

Yes I have not been admitted/rejected yet. According to the website, I was suppose to find out last month or earlier this month and April is just around the corner.

Has anyone received their official packet in the mail from GPPI? I was accepted on 2/23 and still haven't received anything via snail mail. I'm trying to get more info on the open house schedules so I can book travel, but haven't been able to get the admissions office to call me back.

I also haven't received info on financial aid/merit scholarships - looks like some people have been notified already. Not sure if that means all scholarship decisions have been made?

Any info any of you have would be super helpful!

BaristaGirl, I got my official packet via snail mail on Thursday. It contained a flyer with some info about the open house but not a specific itinerary. By the way, I received my scholarship notification via email on March 2.

I got my admissions packet on Thursday, March 19. I got notification via email of a scholarship on March 14.

Does that mean you were told what your scholarship amount would be in Mar 14? If so, when were you notified to send a statement for scholarship consideration? My notification was March 3, a day after being accepted, saying that we'd hear back the following Wednesday. Then I was told scholarship decisions were being put off for another week on March 13 but then again didn't hear anything at all this week. Guess that's probably a bad sign. Then again, maybe it's encouraging that you heard on a Saturday and today isn't over yet.

Did anyone hear anything about scholarships this week?

The open houses run from 1:00 - 5:30 with a reception at 6:00. There is also a list of activities, but no official itinerary.

I've gotten decent help from a couple other schools and nothing from GPPI, I'm trying to decide if it's even on my radar anymore... GPPI doesn't have the quantitative domestic policy focus I was looking for (at least as compared to michigan/syracuse) and I'm not sure if I should even fly out for the open house.

Anyone else in the same situation?

I know its DC, and it'd be an amazing time to be going to school there. But I imagine I'll end up working there soon enough anyways, and the price tag is pretty steep.

Hey Numbers,

I'm in a pretty similar situation. I'm also interested in more domestic policy, and I think that there's a really good chance I'll pursue a Ph.D after I get my MPP. Because of this, I'm leaning towards Chicago and Michigan. I'll go visit those two schools and probably not visit Georgetown. There is a Georgetown accepted students event in my area (San Francisco), so I'll probably check that out.

GOB (Sorry, I can't help but call you that, haha),

Yah, I'm in the same boat. The only thing is that Gtown has a 3 year dual masters program (MA Econ/MPP), so that is helping gtown out.

And, they gave me 5k today, so it seems they're still sending out award notifications if anyone else is waiting.

Did you receive the award notice through e-mail or postal?

Hm, I was never asked to send in an award essay for GPPI...I assume that means I'm not getting a scholarship? :(

FINALLY they email me with good news! All that stuff about being pissed off about the admissions committee being disorganized has melted away and GPPI has become my first choice :-)

I'm in the same boat. I'd really like to know one way or another. Is it so hard to say that they're not able to provide anything?

Got my aid decision today. (I'm ahead of US time, so it seems they're working on Saturdays!) They're giving me $10,000. I think it's close to as much they've given anyone else on this forum, but sadly it's not enough for me. So it's bye-bye, G-town :(

So, let me try to take the stock here. I'm an international applicant, haven't heard back from GPPI at all regarding admission - despite almost 40 days ago an email from Emmett Griffin said I could expect a decision in 2 weeks - let alone scholarship stuff.

My understanding from what I've read on this forum is that they not always send notifications via e-mail, is that right? Shall I reasonably consider myself still in the race (I'm talking about making it in, no matter if I get a scholarship or not)??

I also got 10 K, but DC is so expensive and you'd think a wealthy private institution like Georgetown could give out more.

Did anyone hear anything about an assistantship? It says here: http://gppi.georgetown.edu/12373.html that some people are considered for them with the affiliated research institutions during the admissions process but no one seems to have posted anything. Well, still got to wait another week to get the admissions packet, maybe that will say more.

Luca,

I wouldn't count yourself out yet. If georgetown keeps to their admissions track record you could certainly still be in the running.

My two cents, but again, most of us heard quite a while ago, perhaps they're still making decisions on the applications that weren't "unanimous" during the adcomm meetings...
