Borden Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 There was a PhD admit before the MAs, so I think it's done. Yeah, I saw that one. I just ask because it looks like the past few years, their PhD admits are really scattered, chronologically. Suuuuper aggro.
Bearcat1 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Yeah, I saw that one. I just ask because it looks like the past few years, their PhD admits are really scattered, chronologically. Suuuuper aggro. Maybe they will be? My app still says "under review" so it's not over yet...right? Maybe?
Borden Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) Maybe they will be? My app still says "under review" so it's not over yet...right? Maybe? That's the dream, man. There was one a year or two ago that heard back April 13 or something, which is actually the nightmare. Ed. That was an MA but still. Still still. One can hope. Autonomista Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Great! So that's at least 3 off this board. If there are any others, feel free to PM me! Looking forward to meeting you all. Macchiato, Can i ask you what you're background is? I am still waiting on Yale and starting to think i should just call to inquire. I guess we're definitely in the "no news is bad news" time. I've gotten into three great schools (Duke, UCLA, UNC) thus far but would love to hear some examples of ma theses and SOP's that made yale's list.
abilap Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I thought I would update you fellow CUNY hopefuls. I called CUNY today and was told that decisions are still being made. They expect to have all email/letters sent out within the next two weeks. P.S.: At this point, I don't care anymore, so I will be contacting (read: bugging) all schools to get the results. Tired of waiting! : ) Besides I don't think I will get any offers so I just want to move on with my life. I will keep y'all posted! Thanks BrazilianBuddy!!! BuddingScholar 1

BuddingScholar Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) Quick update: NYU... was informed that Phd accepts have been notified, and they are now deciding who they will offer the MA option instead. It would not give me the status of my application! Columbia... still reviewing apps... by early April with all the results. It seems (personal observation) as if the people being funded have already heard from the school though. Harvard... couldn't really get much, but it sounded like "no news is bad news," at this point. Forgot to say one thing... decision letters will be mailed out no later than March 15th. Yale... emailed inquiring, but have not heard back yet. Their admitted students' day was last week. (Or this week? Can't remember)
navama Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Anyone knows anything about USC? Or no news is bad news? HELP!
mrb1145 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Navama, I got my USC rejection letter today. My partner was accepted to the program, but has declined. Were you interviewed? They interviewed 7 or 8, I think, and made two offers in the first round and were waiting for extra money, I think. I think that if you weren't interviewed, it's probably not happening, but if you were interviewed then you may be hearing from them soon! Good luck.

solus Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I'm a first time poster, but have been looking in on Grad Cafe for over a year as I prepped my applications (and for the GRE). I decided to jump in to share information about schools who have sent out their responses so some of you can stop worrying. Three weeks ago I heard from University College London (the same week Courtauld sent out their responses) for their first deadline MA History of Art course. This week I have heard from the MA Art History and Curating at University of Sussex, the MA Art History at Purchase College and the MS History of Art and Design at Pratt Institute. Good luck to everyone!! I hope the other responses come out soon, I'm a nervious wreck because of course the one I really want to hear from has not sent anything out yet...
neongolden Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Just received my unofficial acceptance email to Columbia's Critical and Curatorial Studies program. Not entirely sure how I'll finance it (especially since school's free where I live right now), but since it's the only American program I applied to, i'm pretty excited to say the least. stumpyjaychristof Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I noticed a couple CUNY Graduate Center acceptances on the results search...has anyone heard anything solid regarding decisions?
BuddingScholar Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I noticed a couple CUNY Graduate Center acceptances on the results search...has anyone heard anything solid regarding decisions? I spoke with the art history department yesterday and was told that decisions were still being made. They expect to wrap up the whole process within 2 weeks max. My guess is that the ones that received answers were already in contact with POIs and probably heard back directly from them.
HannahPie Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Anyone gotten in touch with Rutgers? I sent an email inquiring as to when we're supposed to hear back, but no reply yet.

Borden Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Is anyone else watching undergrads have acceptance meltdowns with a certain sense of schadenfreude right now? HannahPie 1
art_history Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Hey All, I have been accepted to the University of Oxford for the MSt in History of Art and Visual Culture and to UCL for the MA in History of Art. I'm having quite a tough time deciding which offer to take up. I only have two weeks to accept one of them and will not hear about most of the scholarships/fellowships I have applied for until after the deadline. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, art_history
oh_la_la Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Hi art history, Based on the reputation of the faculty, I would say that UCL is a no-brainer, especially if you're studying 18th through contemporary.
art_history Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Hi art history, Based on the reputation of the faculty, I would say that UCL is a no-brainer, especially if you're studying 18th through contemporary. My speciality at both departments would be European late medieval/ renaissance (UCL - Dr. Mills, Dr. Loh v. Oxford - Dr. Johnson). As such, the strength of the contemporary art faculty is great, but not directly significant to me. Could you go into more detail relating to the "reputation of the faculty" please? Thanks!

You should also look into Dr. Wright based on your area: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/art-history/about_us/academic_staff/dr_alison_wright Also, all of the professors you have listed are actually Early Modern specialists. At that point I would also look at the electives offered; UCL has mainly Early Modern and the only elective that would fit your specialty is Dr. Mills' Human and Nonhuman in Medieval Art for the 2013-14 school year. Oxford actually might be a better fit regardless of staff and reputation based on your interests. Edited March 18, 2013 by solus

If I attend UCL I would be taking Dr. Mills' Human and Nonhuman in Medieval Art and Dr. Loh's Early Modern Horror. Conversely, at Oxford I would be in Dr. Johnson's module, Women, Art and Culture in Early Modern Europe. Their electives all cover European 15-17th century art. Thank you for your advice. Mind if you to elaborate on why you changed your opinion?
