socanth Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Realised the question wasn't clear - I meant, what does being recruited entail when it's pre-acceptance?
bipedalcycle Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Morning everyone,  After some time following this forum I thought I'd join as well. just a little curious for the time being - has anybody here heard from Chicago? It appears in the results page that somebody got an interview there.  Best fo luck to everybody bearing with this waiting!
stet Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I have not heard anything from Chicago or Stanford, though obviously someone has per the results search. Also, I haven't heard anything from Irvine, even though my application status has been "under review" since late December or early January. Â Also, someone called my house and asked to speak with me the other day, and the person who answered the phone didn't take a message. So I don't know who called! Probably someone from my college asking for money . . . . Â I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news for all of us who are so anxiously waiting.
radiomars Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Official acceptances for UCSB have come out via email, just FYI.
jscastaneda Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Could someone please provide a link the purported Cornell acceptance into the sociocultural program? Thanks in advance!
radiomars Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Can I ask, what does being "recruited" entail? Is it pre-acceptance? Â Yeah, it's a weird situation. Official acceptances haven't gone out, but they're doing a "Recruitment Weekend" and showing applicants around the city/school/etc. Everything's paid for, which is nice, and makes me think an acceptance is on the horizon, especially since I've known the POI for a few years and he seems eager to have me join the program.Â
arglooblaha Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 (edited) Rejected from two places...have seen acceptances or interviews for three other places. Â Not looking good. Â Edit: have seen acceptances/interviews posted on the results board. Edited February 6, 2013 by arglooblaha
jscastaneda Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Arglooblaha: Is there a specific forum to see acceptances or interviews? Sorry, but I am new to the forum...

Dexterchi Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Hi Guys,  I applied to bio anthro programs, specifically in primate behavior and ecology. I applied to 4 PhD programs: CUNY, Wisconsin-Madison, U of Minnesota-twin cities, and UC Davis.  This whole cycle has been frustrating! I was invited to Twin Cities for the interview weekend, but my POI has decide to go on sabbatical and not take new students. Sad, but that's acceptable.  UC Davis on the other hand says they are not taking new primate students even though I spent a great deal of time emailing professors who said they would be taking students. One even had me write a 3 page paper describing my ideal project, which in response said "great I'll look out for your application".  I haven't heard a peep out of Wisconsin or CUNY, does anyone have info about these two?Â
kro7 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I've been officially accepted to my fourth choice and am being recruited by my third choice school at the moment. Is it dumb to feel guilty about all this? They really want me to go to their schools, but I'm pretty much waiting for the official acceptance from my second choice (I already received an unofficial one) and have yet to hear from my top choice. I kind of feel like I'm leading these other schools on. But obviously they know I applied to more than just their programs, right? Halp. Â I'm kind of in the same boat, though for some I'm honestly not sure what I would decide, pending campus visits and interviews. It's especially awkward, for me at least, when someone asks directly where their school stands on your priority list. Way to put me on the spot! I don't want to count myself out for one program just because I haven't heard (or met faculty in person) from another... radiomars 1
anxiousanthro Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 is anyone else still in Brown limbo? Â the random results postings are driving me crazy!
Platysaurus Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Hey, Â 1. I just got an acceptance email from Brown. 2. I just got asked for interviews from Yale. Â Anyone else in the same awesome boat?
radiomars Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Hey, Â 1. I just got an acceptance email from Brown. 2. I just got asked for interviews from Yale. Â Anyone else in the same awesome boat? Â Can I ask which subdivision of Yale Anthro you applied to?

Sounds good! I ask because I am going to a similar weekend (although not called a weekend), where the emphasis seems to be on showing us around rather than it being an interview weekend. I am trying to figure out what to make of it - nothing has been said about having interviews, but at the same time it's not an acceptance weekend. I guess I will just take it as it comes and prepare as I would if it were a more formal interview weekend. Edit: not called a recruitment weekend! Edited February 6, 2013 by socanth
Platysaurus Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Radiomars I'm sociocultural, you're bio right?
Anthro1310 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Radiomars I'm sociocultural, you're bio right? Â Do you know if Yale sent out all the interview invitations for soicocultural at the same time?Â

Edit: have seen acceptances/interviews posted on the results board.  arglooblaha, i'm bio anthro but i'm in the same boat as you. one rejection, nothing from anywhere else, while also seeing acceptances and interviews for those on the results board. you're not alone! hang in there with me
radiomars Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 Radiomars I'm sociocultural, you're bio right? Yeah, I'm doing Bio. Just wanted to make sure. Congrats on your interview, best of luck! Â Sounds good! Â I think it's definitely a good step forward and I hope it goes well for you! I definitely prepared for this just as I would for formal interviews (complete with a notebook full of notes), but it's a little less intimidating since it's more informal and laid back. They're even putting on a tour of the city and a graduate student social, so I think it might even be fun.
pde Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Hey I've been lurking in this thread and figured it's about time to share what I know:  -To the person that asked about Wisconsin, I got an acceptance email from a professor in the anthro program about two weeks ago (specifically, I am bio anth) and they did not interview. But I haven't gotten anything official from them so maybe they aren't through everything yet? No idea. -Informal skype chat at NYU but did not get invited to campus so I don't think I've made it to the short-short list (but congrats to the person who did and I think this is definitely a really good sign for you!!) -Informal phone interview with Harvard HEB, POI was so kind but said the whole department will probably only accept 2-3 people  (this was also my first interview and I was super flustered so idk how I came off...) -Informal phone chat coming up at GWU -Has anyone applied/heard anything from UC Davis animal behavior??? When do you guys start contacting departments?  Ugh, I'm bad at interviews especially when they aren't in person. Streesssss.  Glad to know that I am not the only one out there in constant anxiety and I hope it goes well for all of you!Â
pde Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Oh, and I did post these to the results search except for GW which was the most recent in case any of you are crazy like me and are trying to match forum response numbers/result search numbers
snowflakes Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Does anyone know whether Harvard sociocultural also conducts interviews?  I hate opening my email every morning and hoping there will be some sort of news, only to realize that there is nothing and the waiting continues:)
colorless Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Is anyone waiting to hear from Indiana (Bloomington)? The web link they sent when your application is submitted is a bit weird.

Too sad.
