mp429 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Heard from my POI from NYU yesterday & we've organized a skype chat for later today. Very excited but also nervous as I'm not quite sure what to expect!
Platysaurus Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Hey what´s the dealio with Brown? Getting a lot of rejections yesterday on the results search, actually when I go to check my application status it still says ´awaiting materials´ even though they´ve received all of my stuff, GRE, LoRs etc.
kphd Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 It could probably mean that you are on a shortlist! because the rejected ones received emails informing that a decision has been made and we could access it by logging on. Â
Allouette Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 mp429, did you apply to NYU under NYCEP or just on its own?
stet Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Do any of you who heard from Berkeley have any idea when the department plans on making decisions?
Platysaurus Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I got an email and skype from my POI at Berkeley but he gave no clue as to when decisions would be made. Probably should have asked... but this was a week ago and it looked like they were just starting to go through apps, probably would be another week at least. All speculation of course. Â I emailed the applyweb site re Brown, should I contact the anthro department directly as well?
AnthroPerson Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Do any of you who heard from Berkeley have any idea when the department plans on making decisions? Â Wait did Berkeley do official interviews? This is not good news. Â
stet Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 It's my understanding that there were only a couple Berkeley interviews, which sounds like they aren't done or aren't doing interviews for everyone or something along those lines. I don't think those of us who weren't interviewed are necessarily out of the running at this point.Â
whirledpeas13 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 As for Berkeley -- I applied to the medical anth program... Which apparently has a much later notification period. (early March!) :/ if anyone knows anything about that, plz plz let me know!
kro7 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Someone was asking about NYU (biological anthro/NYCEP) - In case anyone wanted an update: I had an informal phone conversation with a POI this afternoon; they have a shortlist, but decisions won't be out for a while, most likely.Â
mp429 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 mp429, did you apply to NYU under NYCEP or just on its own? NYU biological anthro under NYCEP. Â Interview was okay. Wasn't horrible, but I think it could have gone better. It was super informal, just a few general questions and some specific questions about my past academics. He was also interested in how I felt about living in New York which I found interesting. Â Like kro7 said, they have a shortlist but they're trying to make it shorter. POI said committees would be meeting again in the next week or two.
Armadilla Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 mp429, congratulations!I am sure you did waaaaaaaay better thank you think!Congratz!
Allouette Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Well, shit... That's no fun. I applied to NYCEP under CUNY, but I suspect they've all got shortlists. Oh well. Bad luck for me this season
majolie Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Hi guys!  I'm new to gradcafe and after weeks of stalking these threads but trying not to I have given in.  I'm going for bio anthro and have only heard back from one school so far (Hopkins, functional anatomy and evolution - it was a no  ) and still have heard nothing at all from everywhere else. Noticing other people are hearing and getting interviews is definitely making me nervous.... has anyone heard back from Duke that applied to Evo Anthro?  This waiting process is a killer.
C'estLaVie Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) Hello everyone! Â So I recently received an invite for a skype interview from UCSD. Looking at the results forum and around here, it doesn't seem like UCSD interviews very often. Any clue on what it might indicate? Are they on the fence about me or something? Or perhaps the other interviewees simply don't haunt gradcafe? Hmm.. Â Â Edit: Just noticed another UCSD interviewee in the results section! Edited February 1, 2013 by C'estLaVie

From the looks of the results page, quite a few hear/accepted/rejected from Duke. Good luck to ya. we're all on this mess of a boat...at least for a couple more months.

Bad luck for me this season No don't worry! NYCEP doesn't interview on its own accord, it's done by the individual universities. I've also applied to CUNY and have not heard anything yet. I have been in contact with my POI there and she's currently in South Africa and only going back to NY mid month so I assume that means they haven't met yet. Don't give up on CUNY yet Edited February 1, 2013 by mp429
YakshaMalla Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Did anyone hear back for an interview from Yale? I have a feeling I've been rejected :S
PhDreams Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Stanford is killing me.... and why is my app still incomplete?!
anxiousanthro Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Stanford is killing me.... and why is my app still incomplete?! Â My Stanford app is also incomplete despite the fact that all my items show as being received! Â Tried to contact the dept but I got no response... it makes me feel like they are only just starting to look at apps and pull things together...
AnthroPerson Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 There's now a Berkeley acceptance on the results board. Â Not good news. Â Blah.
pears Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 My Stanford app is also incomplete despite the fact that all my items show as being received! Â Tried to contact the dept but I got no response... it makes me feel like they are only just starting to look at apps and pull things together... Â i had something similar happen, although it was a different school- i mailed out my packet of hard copy materials, confirmed their arrival at the department with usps, but 3 weeks passed with no update to my status. i tried contacting admissions by phone and email- no response, even after i left a voicemail (which ticked me off). i contacted my POI there, who said that there was a lag between when they receive materials, alert admissions, and admissions processes them. they're a big school so they probably get swamped with applications, even when the deadline is far away (i submitted my materials 6 weeks before the deadline). Â in sum, if stanford gets a lot of applicants, they might just have some serious lag in processing the materials between departments, i.e., communicating between your department and admissions to confirm the arrival of materials on all ends. i would try calling your POI directly or emailing the admissions general account (and calling if you don't get a response within a few days) to see what's up.
