The problem is each day i think about one of these options and the more i think about it the more confusion. I wish i had not applied to all these universities specially the Canada and the U.S. options are more confusing for me.

Never thought i'll be unhappy with my admissions!

You have to be happy!!

I got two flat-straight rejections so far!!!

Got it?

You won't believe it but i would be more happy if i got rejections for all but one application. That would make me more happy.

Good luck with your other applications.

Do you have close correspondence with the professors in all these programs? If not, you can simply accept the offer you want most and decline the rest. There is no risk losing anything. If you do have correspondence with some programs, then you have to worry about how to say no nicely.

As for how to make a decision, I visit the websites and retrieve the track records of the recent alumni. I also look at the works of the existibg graduate students, checking if they have collaborations with the faculty members and among themselves. This gives a hint of the research atmosphere in the department.

I will also email the existing graduate students asking if they feel good in the department and how XYZ(=your intended supervisor(s))'s style of supervision is.

If both departments are equally excellent in all these respects, I will start looking at the cities and the funding package. I know that there are some good resources in the City page of this forum.

Please pardon me if I am too frank. You've got excellent offers while there are people who are still waiting and sighing. Your words might have hurt the feeling of some of us here. I perfectly understand that it's hard to choose, but I believe you will make an excellent decision. after all, you are capable of getting these wonderful admissions : )

This is my first post here even though I've been stalking the results site for nearly two months and more recently this forum. First of all congratulations to those who have got admissions offers and good luck and lots of patience and good thoughts and hope for those who have only gotten rejections so far, I got 4 negatives before my first acceptance and was starting to think that all was hopeless.

I wanted to ask, if it's not too rude, whether any of the admitted into NYU (i've seen many in the results page but none in this forum) is thinking about declining the offer, I am really anxious about the waitlist since I would really like to go to NYU. Also does anyone know what size are waitlists usually and how would it work if people Accept/ Decline offers on the last minute?

Also, I saw someone who is waitlisted for CUNY on the forums, have faith, if I get my spot in NYU you will probably get yours for CUNY, even though my mind is not yet completely made, and I would love to attend either, it seems like I will not be getting any funding at CUNY (since apparently they already notified those with fellowships) and would choose NYU w funding over CUNY w/out.

In the meantime, while we all wait and check our emails 300+ times a day, good look to everyone.

Linguo did you talk to the POI asking your chance. I am also on their waiting list but I am not hopeful. I've heard that they do not normally get people off the list, which I believe to be true.

I'm really WAITING for the Chicago and Northwestern.

UChicago has just an accept in the list.

I would love to hear back from Chicago about now, too.

Well, it was my POI who wrote to me personally regarding the wait list, I haven't asked about my chances specifically but the tone of the email suggested that there was some possibility, I mean, they would not have a wait list unless there was some chance right? I am hoping that some of the accepted candidates might be so good that they will get a lot of offers, maybe Stanford or MIT, etc and choose somewhere else instead but I don´t know too much about that possibility, which is why I decided to post asking. Anyway, there is people who get accepted to multiple universities so they must decline several of them, who knows, maybe we'll get lucky. Trying to keep a positive attitude here although I often tell myself not get my hopes too high. Did you ask your POI about your chances MissTrace?

Good luck and lets hope for the best, for both of us :)

Yes, but the reply is kind of vague. They asked me to join the Open House but I declined. I think it would be actually helpful if you can attend the Open House and impress them, especially your POI. I'm not going because of my class schedule and financial concerns.

Thanks for the encouragement! I must admit that I'm getting tired of the waiting game. I have an impulse to withdraw my application from all the programs that wait listed me. Knowing that someone is with me definitely helps.

Same here, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one waiting on this. I was able to make arrangements to go to the Open House, hopefully I will be able to learn more, I will keep you informed.

Yep but it is from last month, I'm waiting for my rejection I don't think they accept people gradually over two months, it's probably the usual rejection delay (although this one is proving really lengthy.

I have to say, I'm surprised at some of the times between deadlines and decisions. Columbia's deadline was January 15th and I heard from them on February 20th - University of Pittsburgh was December 15th, and when I called I was told that no decisions have gone out yet for the MA candidates! Wah.

yes, we should unofficially consider it a REJECTIONNNNNNNNNNNN.

Maybe we could consider it a wait-list and hope that all Chicago admittees have also offers from MIT, UCLA, STANFORD etc

still waiting....

I really hope that is not the case.

I hope that those who are admitted to UChicago would also have offers from all other schools excluding MIT;)

Edit: Come to think of it, that's not necessarily a logically beneficial situation for me either. Yeah. I guess I should hope for the same thing as you.

A proposal:

I think there should be a system that when someone accepts an offer, he/she automatically be removed from admitted list and waiting list of other universities. If there is a third party player in the whole application process that keeps track of all the results this agency can help everyone to get what they deserve. This will improve the chance of all applicants and in the same time helps universities to find their best match.

So, Chicago made offers to 11 out of 130 applicants, and I'm not one of them. They seem to be officially done with their admissions for Fall 2013.

Also, UMass is expecting to make their final decisions on February 27.

That is a great idea. However I can't stop thinking that that would probably be subject to noticeable increase in application fees. They should offer a checkbox as to whether an applicant wants the service or not. Well, and I will be very likely to use that service with joy.

REALLY? Have anyone contacted the university and they responded the above notification or it is part of the admission offer email?

I have made contact. So yes, and no, it is not part of an acceptance/rejection letter.
