DontHate Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I think this could be fun! Just put down your basic stats and where you applied, and we can all bet where each one of us will get in! It's a very crude way of getting out some of the anxiety about applications (at least I think it is).I shall start:GPA 3.6; GREs 169V, 157M, 5AW; Undergrad @ Ivy number 4 (roughly).Applied to: 4 Ivies, 2 top-ranked state schools, 2 non-Ivy top 10'sMy own bet on myself: I'll get into 2 programs: The one where I'm doing my Master's, and one other. I don't know which. Maybe one of the state schools. Abdul, DontHate and isawnewton 3

Abdul Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Hello, I am a medical graduate from a developing country. I have applied in many places in US and Europe. My credentials are: MBBCh degree, with honors, and an expected cumulative score around 90% (Excellent grade) Rank in class: 1st out of 50 GRE scores: Q170, V157, AW3.5 1 year research experience in Neuroscience 2 publications in peer-reviewed journals Presented my research in an international medical student conference, got the best poster presentation award + travel grant for the conference A research fellowship in Netherlands Few clinical electives in Europe, the last one was in University College London. Acceped for 2 more clinical electives in 2013: one in Alabama and the 2nd in Oxford University. Applied to: Cornell, Einstein, Rutgers, VCU, Baylor College, Emory, Vanderbilt, WUSTL, Utah, Hawaii. I am disappointed because it seems that my applications are not being reviewed favorably. I just saw the posts of other applicants to Emory, Washington University in St. Louis, and Vanderbilt saying that interview invitations have already been sent.

Excluding those you mentioned, I think you'll probably grab 3, possibly 4. After you do the Oxford clinical, I think the world will open up a bit further. Also, did those schools make it clear that interviews = acceptance? Or are they for those they are undecided about? You might be a sure shot -- I don't want to get your hopes up, but they may have made a snap decision on you and are doing interviews for those they aren't quite set on. History: MA, 3.93 avg. with minor in anthro (4.0 avg there) GRE (old) 790, 740, 5 (170 and 169, I think, on the new scale) State school for master's, no name for undergrad, but 2 years study abroad Funded research trip this January 3 LOR, sterling Novel topic, which I am aware could work for or against. Schools applied: Northwestern, Fordham, Toronto, Ohio State, U of Michigan (History and Anthro program), York UK, Oxford UK, Yale

Now, I am applying to the same two programs.. I don't know much about their rankings, but one was in the top 50 and the other was in the top 100, on the U.S. News Best Colleges list of 2012. I am also applying to one other, which got a national rank of 50 on the Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2010.

Having great LoRs is really important, I hear, so I think you'll definitely be picked up somewhere. How competitive are neuroscience programs? I know in my field there are usually 150+ applicants whereas it looked like neuro had lower n's. Good luck everyone!! May the odds be ever in your favor!

Robin_Sparkles Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I suppose I'll toss my hat into the ring. Undergrad: Drury University, Double Major in Theatre and Communication with Minors in Asian Studies, Philosophy, and Religion. I am the first (and so far only) student to ever direct a full main stage production at Drury. I've also directed a show I wrote myself, three shows at summer programs I was paid for, as well as five other productions. I've acted in forty productions, I've costume designed for two, and I've written two shows that have been produced. NYU Florida State Brown Columbia DePaul UCLA
