How many of you have heard something back yet?

Every time I get a new email at my school email address I'm all like this:

Then I see it's from Twitter and I'm like this:

I haven't heard anything from any of my applications. I'm starting to get really impatient. I honestly don't think I can check my email more than I've been doing it. It's nerve-racking ! I just want to hear ANYTHING!

I got confirmation that one school still wants me to visit. I also got a "we need your GREs" from one school, and a "your application is complete" email from another. I hate ETS even more now that I have to spend another $25 to send my scores again. I've given them about $400 this year. Beyond that, just waiting.

This happened to me too but turns out ETS had sent my scores but they were stuck in the specific school's testing department. Also, ETS doesn't charge twice for sending scores if they don't reach the school for whatever reason..

Well, they certainly charged my credit card twice. Maybe there's a section to resend scores, I'll have to look.

I called and talked to them on the phone. They were very apologetic and said that there would be no charge for resending scores. I'm sure they'll refund your $20 if you call them up.

Shockwave, I think it's a mix of ongoing correspondence between the POI and the student, and some POIs calling students once they've reviewed their application.

I corresponded (initial e-mail contact and then by skype) with a POI at each university before applying (Biology). I also Skyped with the POI's current graduate students before applying.

I've done the same, but what about post application submission?  I had great interactions with several POIs but have since haven't heard anything personalized as such =/  maybe its a discipline difference?

well you aren't friends, yet, so what is there to discuss? it is very likely that they have a pool of applicants to choose from - 2/4 of my POIs were pretty clear that despite our chemistry, they will pick the best applicant (which of course will be me).

i've applied to 10 programs and I've heard back from 1 (UNC--Communication Studies) super early--less than 2 weeks after applying.

 

I think typically those in the humanities hear around late jan/early february. one of my top choices, however, doesn't notify you until March. The torture!

 

Of course, if it takes 4 months to make decisions, I can't for the life of me figure out why deadlines are so early. it's like we're being tested.

Just got my first rejection, more than 2 months after submitting my application!

I heard from one of my schools the day after the deadline and after that... silence. I'm waiting for 4 more programs, but I guess they'll be all rejections:

 

2/4 sent out invites in mid december... which probably means they won't send more

1/4 sent out invites last week, but someone posted yesterday that they had sent out all invites

 

and the other one is MIT, so I count on a rejection.

 

... but not knowing for sure is killing me! At this point it would be better to know if it's a rejection.

I applied to 9 neuroscience programs, got interview invites from four (all in the last two weeks of december) and have no heard nothing in almost 3 weeks.  I only know of one that has sent out all of their invites for sure but its getting harder and harder to believe there will be anything but rejections coming any time soon

I got my first response last week from the only school I applied to that had a December deadline.  I was accepted for the Applied Math PhD program at Rensselaer Polytechnic.  I can't even begin to describe what a relief it is to know that no matter what else happens, I have somewhere to go in the fall. (a decent program, at that)  The rest of my deadlines were either yesterday or don't even come up until the end of the month, so I don't expect to hear from anyone else until February at the earliest.

Hey I've only ever applied to Canadian universities. Did you have to pay to apply to each of the 11? Did you just pick a bunch of schools out of a hat just in case? I was surprised to learn that so many people here apply to more than 3 or 4 PhD programs given that most people I know would have discussed their intentions with POIs before applying.

I've received an offer (fully-funded for five years) from one Ph.D. program so far, don't expect to hear back from the others until mid-February at the earliest.
