Reason to worry?

Recommended Posts

That was me in U Penn. Don't worry too much yet, I talked to them and they haven't contacted everyone they're taking either (not even all the first round people). Also, these are early days, some people are bound to reject a lot of their offers and the position will go to people on the waitlist.

EDIT: Also, as far as I can tell, Bio and Statistics are (mostly) unrelated in most schools as to when they send offers.

Hey everybody, chill out, 2 posts on the results page hardly means your chances have been completely shot! Look at the results from last year, admission decisions started about this time and were steadily reported through the end of February.... Relax!

That's (somewhat) reassuring. Looked at your profile--not surprised that you got in :).

What do they mean though by "first round people"?

applyin&prayin, I applied to the Wharton program. And no problem!

sisyphus, I appreciate your compliments! By "first round" I guess they just mean people they're giving an offer to without any further queries. I wasn't sure exactly, I think they have a list of people they've definitely decided to offer a place to (and they haven't even contacted all the people on this list yet), they also have a few that they will either offer a place to or waitlist, but haven't gotten around to sorting that yet. And then they have more people who are waitlisted.

I'm praying that since its west coast they could be sending them out until 8PM east coast time. I might just email them directly and ask them to end this torture. I think I drained 20% of my phone battery checking my email in the last 10 minutes.

Harvard I'm not too hurt by if I don't get in, but Washington would cause me to drag my feet for a few days.

did you hear back? more Uwashington acceptances...

I didn't hear anything back from the email, I'm hoping maybe tomorrow? I emailed alexam@u.washington.edu so I'm hoping that was the correct person to email. I also said that I needed to know soon for purposes of renewing an apartment lease (not entirely a lie). So hopefully my questions are answered tomorrow.

I didn't realize more Washington PhD results went up, that's... disappointing...

applied to

biostat: brown, jhu, wash, harvard

stat: cmu, upenn, duke, yale

international applicant.

havent heard from any.

getting nervous

Don't worry if you haven't heard back from Harvard yet - they take a much longer time to admit international students due to funding (this is for the PhD program, not sure about the MS). Check back late March/early April if you haven't heard from them by then :)

Not necessarily. Harvard typically admits a 'first wave' of rockstars and then opens up slots as people turn them down (yes, it happens...). But we're probably talking second week of April here.

CyberWulf, similar question for those who haven't heard anything from Washington yet? Do they do a similar first round of rock stars and then send out later decisions based on those students decisions to enroll?

Huh, I've never heard of UW officially waitlisting people before. It appears they're planning on admitting a lot of students this year, so I suppose a waitlist makes sense.
