despejado Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 True, Despejado, it's still possible. Two just seems such a frightfully low number!! Dahhhh!! Lol. I'll live either way. I'm considering becoming a hermit in the forest instead of participating in life for a couple years. Write a couple best selling books. That'll make me feel better. If I volunteered to be a hermit with you, would we still be hermits? Or does a hermit have to be singular? Regardless, if you find a nice place to write in the woods, I'm coming with you.
mikers86 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 All my remaining schools have app status sites that are never updated. Holy frustrating, Batman! At least others would indicate if your app had gone to committee review.
Kamisha Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I’m fairly certain that if I don’t get into Florida State, my undergraduate mentor will disown me, murder me, dig me up, bring me back to life, and murder me again. It’s his alma matter and he really wants me to go there. I’ve seen a Rhet/Comp acceptance and two Creative Writing acceptances, but no Lit acceptances yet. Here’s to hoping that means I’m not out of the game yet.
andrewcycs Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 You are so invited to live the hermit life with me. You can be the modern day Emily Dickinson and I'll be the new Thomas Pynchon. Don't worry, you don't have to write poetry unless you want. Nyctophile 1
andrewcycs Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Kamisha! Your mentor sounds quite magical! Re-animating the dead??? I need to go to your school. Ozymandias Melancholia 1
Horb Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Can we talk for a minute about how my Irvine status is waiting supplemental materials but then it lists all the supplemental materials are received and official? What the heck, Irvine. I know you're rejecting me, but still.
Nothung Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Congrats on Ann Arbor! As for myself: currently at 1 rejection, 1 and a half implied rejections, and still waiting on a few mid tier programs that I'm honestly just not even that excited about anymore. Feeling like a failure and emotionally gearing myself up for next year. gatsbysghost 1
boynamedcrow Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Well, I just spoke to the DGS of the only program that I applied to, and I am first on the waitlist. Simultaneous relief and terror. There were four offers made. It feels weird to have one's future hinging on the decisions of four strangers. Kamisha, ArthChauc, Quikthoreau and 1 other 4

You definitely deserve it in my book, if only for your username referencing Kafka on the Shore.

Kamisha Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 That’s a lot of Ann Arbor acceptances! Congrats to everyone finding success this week!
JSTORPolka Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 That’s a lot of Ann Arbor acceptances! Congrats to everyone finding success this week! Too bad they forgot one. Ah, sigh. Michigan was my first choice (working with disability theory), but alas. I have a couple of waitlists, a few more schools to hear back from, but I'm really, REALLY freaking out. -As I know everyone else is as well. I just wish I could jet off to Turkey for the next two weeks.

I heard nothing yet and am planing for fall 2015:(( I even would move out next week to be closer at my old university to have the studying environment.
despejado Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Very likely I'm shooting blanks this year too, but I'm actually okay with that. I know I can do better, and I will do better. Minor setback and change of plans, I suppose. Of course I would be insanely and wonderfully surprised to get an acceptance from one of the schools I have left, but this seems unlikely. I have learned where my weaknesses are though, and hopefully that will help me when I try again. boynamedcrow 1
davidipse Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 You are correct--it's the 1-year M.Phil. He told me that, effectively, all he had to tell Yale was that he had an offer to do the M.Phil. here, and he was hoping to defer his acceptance for a year to complete the program. And Yale told him, "Go ahead, go to Cambridge, we'll have a place for you when you get back." I can't speak to whether other departments are as forgiving, but he had a very good experience with Yale English. Thanks for this. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. And congrats on Michigan! Maybe I'll see you during the visit weekend (though that's a long trip from England...)
mikers86 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Well, it is only Feb. 19. This could drag out until April 15. So, anything is possible between now and then. But I'm not gonna lie, very thankful to have one acceptance at this point since everything else is so uncertain.

I finished my MA there in Hispanic Studies last year, and while not the same thing, I'm available if you want to chat about the programs, etc.. I was shut out from PhDs my first go as an undergrad but this second try after the MA has yielded a few acceptances so far. Outside of USCD's Lit program I haven't been accepted to any other programs that are relevant to this thread, unfortunately.

Btw, if u re unlucky, ( I hope not!!!) would u do it full time applying or find a job first? Because I am considering to quit mine in the summer.

If THAT doesn't work out, I'll get a job and save some money.
ComeBackZinc Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 It's still early, you guys, so don't give up hope. I heard back in April.
