Haha. I'll join you in that club. At our first meeting, we should practice the art of deep breathing and not obsessively checking our email.

I'll join you as well

nns91: most programs first attempt to call, but if they can't reach you, they send a follow-up email. no worries! (:

Guys guys guys! I just got an interview offer from UC Berkeley MCB! Feb. 2-4!

nice to know emails are being sent out late at night too

The call came at 4pm Pacific time, so not that late. Email followed. Both were from a particular professor who said the logistical emails would come in January.

Congrats!!! That's awesome, you must be one of the first to hear I think

I think I'll be going to that weekend too! The other weekend conflicts with another school that also has us doubling up.

See you there probably!

I'll be there that weekend as well! Must be the popular choice :P now to just figure out 12 researchers I'd like to meet...

Imagine where we all might be in 30 years, huddled around dimly lit tables in nameless departmental basements, snow piling up outside as night falls, slurping coffee while poring over stacks of applications for a fresh crop of students, laughing at bad essays and remarking to your colleagues about how you could never get in nowadays.

Happy holidays guys!

I got an email this morning from NYU sackler for Cell and Molecular Biology. BTW, I was not the one that posted in the results section

Between yesterday and today, 3 people have gotten interviews for NYU-sackler (results survey section). This should make a lot of us jump at every instant our smartfones buzz.

Based on the extrapolation of last year results, Mount Sinai should have started out in December as well.

Tomorrow is another day... that's what I keep telling myself.

Awesome, see you both there! Mabester, I'll be interviewing in the pharmacology department as well! I'm curious as to what you guys make of the website for faculty choices - I thought it was odd that there were multiple faculty members I would love to meet with, but they weren't even options on the drop down menus that you have to choose from (and they were pharmacology faculty). I wonder if they only give the option to meet with those who are accepting students? I didn't see anywhere that it specified why those profs were given to us as options, but that's my guess. Bummer. Luckily, there's give a lot of options, and a lot of cool research going on!

The interview dates are Jan 16 & 17. so pretty early. I've also received interviews at U of Chicago for Metabolism and Nutrition, UCLA ACCESS, UW pharmacology, and OHSU PMCB if anyone has questions about those interview dates

What are the interview dates for OHSU PMCB?

Were you ontime or did you miss the deadline?

I applied on time. In fact I submitted my app 2 days before the deadline for all Uni.But I guess it was still late considering UNC showed my app complete on DECEMBER 9 though I submitted it on NOV 28. I had some problem with my credit card which caused all the problems..UGH...

I'm starting to think The Grad Cafe is the devil. If I didn't know that someone else had an interview at Hopkins and UVA I wouldn't worry so much.. but I do, so I do.

I couldn't agree more with you! Every time I come here, I have multiple heart attacks (really, no kidding about it). Btw, where did you see UVA invites? there Deadline was DEC 15. How come they reviewed and sent invites so fast?! I made a stupid mistake in that app. I applied there because one of there profs told me to do so and later informed him that I mentioned my sincere interest to work with him. He  said it was good and told me to inform him if I get any response from Grad committee. AND I FORGOT TO MENTION HIM MY SOP!!! only mentioned him in the section where they asked if I mailed any profs. Really worried about it.

I just realized that I might have a room mate during my interview. Not too crazy about that...what if she draws me a sharpie mustache the night before interviews?

Dunno if any of you are applying to City of Hope, but I talked to the lady there and invites should go out by mid-January or so since their first interview date is Feb. 7.

I am trying to stay positive, but I woke up to an empty email box again this morning. Still no word....from anywhere. Nothing like getting an ulcer for Christmas!

Today is a new day, maybe all of us that haven't heard yet will hear now.

As a side note, finals being over has made the waiting so much worse. With nothing else to do I just check these forums and my email constantly

I had a roommate for an interview weekend once. It's not bad. Everyone there *should* be and generally are professional.

Yes don't worry about your roommate. On these interviews, everyone is on their best behavior. I don't know if your school will be as thoughtful as mine, but the only school where I had to stay overnight in a hotel with a roommate took care to make sure that our roommates had separate research interests from us. So while we were all interested in biophysics, crystallographers shared rooms with NMR people. The majority of programs have applicants sharing rooms, so don't stress. I'm positive everyone will be on their best behavior. I will suggest that you are nice to all of your fellow candidates. Since the programs are all so similar and popular, they are sharing applicants, so there's a good chance that you will see the people you are meeting at these interviews more than once.

My previous lab PI's boss (Dr. Rick Neubig) is still listed on the faculty, but I know that he moved to MSU last summer. So it's possible that they haven't updated the roster listed on the website. I'd assume that the dropdown menu is current . Maybe some aren't taking students or aren't available/interested to talk to students? Some of the faculty are also physicians who work more with clinical data. I'm not sure. All I know is there's plenty of pickings. Not to mention they said you can go outside your primary area of interest as well, so that may ease the burden of finding a bunch of pharmacologists.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
