I see that UofC and Stanford have sent out interview requests. Does anyone know if either of these are for a finalist pool? Generally, how should we interpret receiving or not receiving interviews?

People get in without interviews, so it's not a total rejection, and people interviewed and still get rejected. Sometimes interviews are a way to just narrow down the pool, or for them to get a better idea of what your interests are, or just to get to know you the person. I'm not familiar enough with those programs to say, but I wouldn't take it as a rejection until you get that letter. This is all, of course, coming from an eternal optimist who puts too much faith in platitudes: it ain't over until it's over (I also hope I got that Lenny Kravitz song stuck in your head).

Sometimes schools have more than one interview session.  They may do a later interview set.  You can't know until you get the rejection.  Having not been rejected now is a good start since it means there is still a chance.  You can't do anything about it now but you can wait and try to stay sane.  Best of luck.

I thought I had been rejected from Michigan because I didn't get an interview and saw other people did, but I got accepted anyway. On the other hand, I had an interview with UCSD, and they were just clarifying some things and making sure I was really interested in the program. I guess they have different reasons for interviewing people, so don't assume it's a rejection.

This whole process is so complicated that we can't be sure of anything, so just keep your head up and good luck!

@SaraB - Not sure that my renewed hope that "maybe I was just so great I didn't need to be interviewed" will be beneficial in the end, but at least my momentary grief period kicked me into high gear for a plan B.  Hopefully I'll be better prepared (mentally) for the outcome either way now.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to come off that way. I really just meant to say that they interview people for different reasons. Good luck! Hope you hear some good news soon.

You all are so encouraging and awesome! Thanks for giving me hope to wait another day!! (Not that I have any other option). Still rocking out in complete and utter silence here...

No, no, no!  Don't apologize.  I didn't mean to imply what I said was your internal monologue.  Totally might have been that quiet voice of overly-optimistic hope going through my head when I found out schools interview for different reasons, however :)    And it makes sense that they would.

I haven't heard anything, from anywhere.  So I'm just anticipating the worst.  I've heard low expectations mean you either get to be correct, or pleasantly surprised!  Win-win??

Is it possible to anticipate for the worst and hope for the best?

If the pursuit of academia has taught me anything - yes.  Might be the only way to get through it.

I am absolutely going nuts today. I just want a rejection at least. Why can't they pick the people they want, make a wait-list, then reject everyone else.  Why do I have to find out in March that I got rejected?  Im having a really awful day and not knowing anything is destroying me.

I'm being very undude.

I'm in the same boat. I can't concentrate on anything. I'm waiting on one school and if I get in I'll be moving across the country from my boyfriend and my family. Not knowing what I'm going to be doing with my life six months from now is really starting to wear on me. We're stuck in graduate admissions limbo.

crossing my fingers for you MPollywog, and big thanks Daykid, I hope you're right.  Today was just tough because of midterms, and other crap.

They will probably let applicants know about the decision by next week. So, let's just wait.

I like how supportive everyone is! I am so nervous because I haven't heard a peep, but I like whoever said that it's good news if you haven't heard anything yet because you still have a chance... for now :)

Still.... I WANT TO KNOW.

This is giving me some hope right now! I haven't received a single interview request, and my fingers are crossed tight for Northwestern. Le sigh...

I have also been wondering this.. I see that someone else on here has an interview at WUSTL and I haven't heard a single thing from them. From what my POI told me, they interview everyone they are interested in. I'm losing hope. It's my next top choice (and I've already been rejected from my #1 top choice :( )

I've also been waiting on Northwestern and haven't heard a peep from them thus far. So whooooo knows.
