abby.koenig Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Hi all - Is anyone still waiting and not knowing if they should email the school and ask if/when they will hear? I saw that some other majors were already notified to the school I am waiting on, but no one posted anything about my particular major. The website doesn't say much - "deferred to department." I assume when they update your status, for better or worse, you get an auto email about that. Has anyone just up and emailed the department of when they will hear back either way? Is that tacky? Thank you. HermoineG 1
iExcelAtMicrosoftPuns Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 No. Other majors have other deadlines and procedures. Perhaps you can send an email but I wouldn't because they haven't notified anyone in your program yet. If you do email them you'll want to be sure that the website doesn't say somewhere in it "you can expect to hear from us by early March" or something along those lines. Best of luck!
VirginianFeminist Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Has anyone just up and emailed the department of when they will hear back either way? Is that tacky? It's neither tacky nor likely to affect your chances. That said, I wouldn't e-mail the department unless you have some reason to need the information now (for example, a deadline for accepting another offer). Instead, you might start a thread about your specific program in the forum. There may be other applicants applying to the same program with whom you can share information and commiserate. Good luck!
Mogriff Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 No. Either wait (I know it's painful) or call and check to make sure all of your application materials were received- at least that way you might get an idea of when applications are being reviewed.
AmandaLemon Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I am trying to stay calm and not going to bother them by e-mails. At least, right now...
impatientWaiting Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I actually sent an e-mail today. It was to a non-specific e-mail address, the "enroll" e-mail (not specific to any department or level of education). I got an e-mail a few hours later and was told that my application was being reviewed by the BME department. Although, the reason I e-mailed was because the department is following rolling admission and it had been 6 weeks (to the day) since my application was put under review so I figured why not. The website has had the same thing up saying that my application is under review. The "deadline" for applications isn't until September so I don't have a time by when I should be hearing back. So the waiting continues...
HermoineG Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 This wait is killing me. I need at least one acceptance to feel a little better. Sevenoffs 1
JackOfStyle Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I disagree that you shouldn't email. If it is well past when you were told to expect to hear something (if there is even any information about that at all), and especially if you're seeing other results from the same school and major show up, then you are well within your rights to ask the admissions office when you might expect a decision, or if one has already been made.
AmandaLemon Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 This wait is killing me. I need at least one acceptance to feel a little better. I'll feel totally great if I have one funded PhD acceptance! But now, without it, I am dying just as you... omegamarkxii 1
