dr. t Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 I think it's pretty crappy of schools not to let everyone (accept, waitlist, reject) know at the same time, or at least within a couple of days, I commend Northwestern and Chicago for doing that. Even the universities that do two waves can come up with some way of letting people know what's going on. It's just common courtesy, IMO. I haven't seen any Chicago rejections?
Chiqui74 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I haven't seen any Chicago rejections? Huh,you are right. I must have imagined that.
JTE Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 So we have three Duke acceptances on the results page, do they do two waves? If not, when should we all expect our rejections? Anybody have insight?
JTE Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Also, see my prior comment and substitute Emory for Duke.
KBHistorian Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 It's those few acceptances on the results page that get to me! I'm waiting to hear back about University of South Carolina, but I saw 3 people have already been accepted. Which makes me assume I haven't been accepted there....I wish everyone was told at the same time, so we can satrt planning the next steps.
IvanBezdomnii Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 There's only one Harvard acceptance up, did they actually send out notices yet? Or was that an informal notice. I know my POI is a no prior contact, you probably won't hear from me until we meet in person type of guy.
JTE Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Seriously! I don't get why there is a lag between acceptances and rejections. Just let people know at the same time and put them out of their misery. A rejection is a rejection, it's not like we're waitlisted or anything...and if we are, let us know! Magellan1521 1

Heimat Historian Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I talked to my sister who is currently in a PhD program in Economics. Her schools didn't notify her until almost 3 months after people posted admissions. Who knows how these things work? It is incredibly frustrating though.
ashiepoo72 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 This probably won't make anyone feel better, but I think sometimes the second wave isn't set in stone. They have to hear back from the first wave before contacting the second because of funding issues. Sometimes they may have to see if the first wave got funded through university-wide fellowships--if not, they get funded through TAships that might've gone to someone in the second wave. It's impossible for them to notify a second wave when they aren't sure if they can even accept everyone in that wave. Now people who are for sure rejections are another story. I hate that some programs leave those for dead last.
SunshineLolipops Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Also, see my prior comment and substitute Emory for Duke. I think that rejections usually come a week later
JTE Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Thanks for the heads up JJWS, I guess the waiting game continues.
JTE Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Looks like Stanford admissions are rolling out.
ImBothaTalks Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Urgh this is so frustrating. There is no clear answer on what to do

I'd love to think that they haven't actually notified anyone because it means I may still have a shot!
Fianna Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) Got an email from DGS at Indiana. They're still going through the process of reviewing. The email said that my application was in the top of all the apps they've received and will very likely offer me admission. Email asked me to hold off on committing to anyone else if I am interested and to wait to hear back from them in a few weeks with an official offer and funding information. No word on any visiting weekend. So, if you're waiting for Bloomington, don't give up hope yet. They're officially not done! Edited February 12, 2015 by Fianna Chiqui74 and Aubstopper 2
ashiepoo72 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Fianna, thanks for the information. I think my stomach feels even worse now haha

IU doesn't do a visit weekend but they do schedule many individual visits for students working around your schedule. I got my offer letter a few weeks after receiving that very same email so I hope for the same for you! What is your field/POI at IU? Edited February 12, 2015 by catsandscarves
Josh J. Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Looks like Stanford admissions are rolling out. And there were also several Stanford admissions last week as well....and then with the person above who stated that the list had been sent to current students....very frustrating.
Chiqui74 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I just logged in to ApplyWeb through the Brown portal (easier to find) and everything had previously been blue was suddenly red. My heart skipped a beat, thinking something has actually changed, but no. There are no changes on the other 4 schools on the same portal.
manda3124 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Congratulations to all the acceptances! I'm feeling pretty down--officially rejected from one of my five schools, three others have posted acceptances and CUNY posted two interviews. So I think I'm 0/5 two years in a row. Part of my problem is that I am location constrained so I probably only 1-2 of the 5 were really good fits. Any thoughts on contacting POIs where I haven't received official rejections yet?
chtodelat Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 just got a rejection from Indiana. Surprisingly didn't phase me that much. Also, they only have ten spots this year. Best of luck to all those waiting to hear.

I'm interested in working with Grossberg, Clegg and Snyder. In an absolutely ideal world, I'd love to be able to do a dual JD/PhD. I'm excited about this one. Hopefully my husband will hear from Indiana's political science department with similar good news soon. catsandscarves 1
