jamesy1116 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 BTW, I was thinking all day today about grad school apps, and stressed with my workload... and just had this nagging idea of getting rejected all day. So my boyfriend just brought me a cup of hot cocoa and said "You're distressed. Here's a hot beverage. " I want a boyfriend to do this for me and I'm a straight male IamLorde, GeoDUDE! and moochie 2 1
prospecting Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Do international students also receive invitations for interviews/visits on campus? I have applied to UT Austin, currently I am in Minneapolis as an exchange student, but overall I take my undergrad degree abroad. Are you in contact with a POI? And is he/she aware that you are currently in Minneapolis and open to visit UT?
sjoh197 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Everyone just remember, a wise poster once said.... "A few people have been accepted to insert school here, therefore we have all obviously been rejected by all schools we've applied for." sophie anne 1
sophie anne Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 FWIW, POI at Boulder says to expect unofficial news late next week, so if anyone else has a faculty contact there you might expect the same.
columbia09 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Someone heard from Rice I'm getting nervous !

darkstar Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 My status page for UT-Austin has updated. It now says "Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review." Did this happen to anyone else? And what does it mean, if anything? Thanks. moochie and JasonTuzo 1 1

Did this happen to anyone else? And what does it mean, if anything? Thanks. My uT-Austin interface says this as well. I believe it just means that the graduate school as forwarded your application materials to the school to which you are applying. In this case, Jackson School of Geosciences.

IamLorde Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 To darkstar and teddybrosevelt (haha I love that name btw): My UT status says the same thing. Checking it 3 times a day seems to have no effect. Hopefully we will all hear good news soon! FWIW, I thought I would share my first acceptance of the season. Got an email from my POI at UNM at the end of last week with an offer of admission to the MS program! He told me the official letter would be coming later, but wanted to let me know the good news...which was really nice of him! They are guaranteeing 2 years of support via TA position. Though I was originally hoping to go directly into a PhD program, I am insanely excited nonetheless! Good luck to everyone and I hope the next few weeks are filled with positive news

mars.tina Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Hey everybody! Anyone got news from Caltech GPS or any other planetary science program?! The suspense is killing me, Smalls! If previous-year notification dates are any indication, I'm running out of luck for Caltech!!! Good luck to everyone!!! Edited February 2, 2015 by mars.tina

If previous-year notification dates are any indication, I'm running out of luck for Caltech!!! Good luck to everyone!!! Nothing from Caltech. So, yeah. Let me know if you call or hear anything... There don't seem to be any results for Caltech GPS on the results search so they may be running a little later than usual with decisions. One person posted earlier in this thread that they got accepted by Caltech but it's not in the results search, and they didn't specify that they applied to GPS, so unless they come back and clarify I wouldn't count that as anyone having heard from GPS. I've just decided to wait patiently for my overpriced rejection letters Edited February 2, 2015 by sophie anne
teddybrosevelt Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Not positive, but I believe most programs are running a little 'late' compared to previous years. I've been fortune to speak with two POIs who have said this.

sjoh197 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Could be that departments are experiencing the influx that we talked about earlier in the thread, of students applying because of the oil drop and lack of job opportunities. That would certainly slow them down.
columbia09 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 My advisor said that they're just starting to look at applicants (this is at my undergrad institution). So it could be the same at other places.
