columbia09 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I am so anxious for any news that I would even be excited for other people's news right about now. And yes, I know it is still too early. Is it still too early ? When are most of these decisions made ?
GeoMex Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Is it still too early ? When are most of these decisions made ? I think most of what I've see in the search results are in february and march, some in january and april. We've already got some acceptances and rejections by now. Someone got an interview at Stanford or something today.
GeoDUDE! Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Masters programs probably decide later than PhD, since most people want funded PhD students and not funded masters. Usmivka and jamesy1116 1 1
darkstar Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) Is it still too early ? When are most of these decisions made ? I don't know. My earliest deadlines were UT-Austin (Jan. 1) and CU-Boulder (Jan. 7). From what I've seen on the results page for these two schools, I might get an interview around the last week of January or first week of February. Edited January 21, 2015 by darkstar

My Stanford POI emailed me back and said that they are reviewing the applications. I'm applying for my masters
columbia09 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Masters programs probably decide later than PhD, since most people want funded PhD students and not funded masters. I was told that most people who get their masters in a science don't pay usually. All the grad students at my school aren't paying anything. I would imagine that if a school can't found you then you won't be admitted.

I really hope I'm chosen for one at UT austin. at least for skype, but I'm more than willing to ask for some days off at work to go to Austin or Houston (UH) for it.
GeoMex Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Oh really ? Are they masters or PhD ? My Stanford POI emailed me back and said that they are reviewing the applications. I'm applying for my masters Mine was a MSc. the other ones I don't remember, up in the main menu you can go to search results and then look for what you're looking for. I've found that most of the results until now are for Geophysics programs.

There are a lot of masters programs that aren't. DU for example. They offer the chance to win fellowships, but there is no guaranteed funding. A lot of Masters programs that are oil related aren't funded. Usmivka and GeoDUDE! 2

columbia09 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Well I got an email from my POI at Virginia Tech who said that since he hasn't heard from the committee that it's unlikely I was recommended. He said that they have very few TA positions and he's unlikely to take new students. Did anybody here apply to VT ?
GeoMex Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Sorry to hear about your bad news! The very best of luck on your other apps! Thank you. Now to wait again and see if I make it.

columbia09 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Yes, haven't heard anything. Did you make contact with your POI ? What are your stats if I may ask ?
jamesy1116 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Did you make contact with your POI ? What are your stats if I may ask ? I did about two weeks ago letting them know I applied, my stats are posted on the bottom of the first page.

jamesy1116 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Does this stuff actually come in the mail? I expect to see everything in email.
GeoMex Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Does this stuff actually come in the mail? I expect to see everything in email. Maybe for close acceptances.
GeoDUDE! Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Offical letters (from the graduate school not department) often come in the mail, but usually unoffical is email.
columbia09 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I did about two weeks ago letting them know I applied, my stats are posted on the bottom of the first page. I called up the department they said that the applications are still in review and that they haven't made any final decisions yet. She also told me that she thinks my application wasn't reviewed yet.
