The optimist in me is saying that I am not outright rejected; they're just scheduling interviews for their top students first, and if there is space available, they'll schedule one for me.

Some schools have multiple waves of interviews, or notify in waves like Arcanelady said.

And then some schools don't interview at all, so I wouldn't worry yet.

Also, some people who aren't invited to the official interviews get acceptances. Some programs will accept people right off the waitlist when their top (interviewed) applicants go elsewhere.

To be honest, If it is a school that has interviews as a part of their decision making process, then most likely for now they have passed on your application. Every school looks for different things.  The hardest thing for me and every applicant is to not take things personal.

There will be schools that value those attributes that you possess and they will be the lucky ones who accept you for an interview, a wait list or an outright acceptance.  :)

I wouldn't be too worried yet! I know of some people that were accepted without getting interviewed for the same program that others had to do interviews for. This is just speculation on my part, but I would assume that the people getting selected for interviews are in the "maybe pile," and the universities will accept those they are impressed by. Keep your head up!  :D

All I can say is I know my undergrad school only interviews a certain number for admission. If you aren't interviewed you are rejected. But idk that every school is like that, especially since everyone finds out at the same time whether or not they are interviewed (at my school).
