New York/New Jersey Schools Fall 2015

Recommended Posts

I was looking at the results page and was surprised to see that someone was rejected by Montclair via email on 3/10?! I'm still waiting and checking the admissions portal every day. Nothing yet.

For all those rejected from TC, I emailed the assistant director of admission asking for feedback on my application and received this response:

"I am writing in response to your request for information regarding the decision on your application to the Speech and Language Pathology program. While it is our policy not to discuss the specifics of an application decision, I hope that the following general information will be helpful to you.

Your application was given full consideration along with all other applications received for this program by the members of the admission committee who consider applicants for this degree. With respect to the admission process for this particular program, the committee adopts a holistic approach in reviewing each applicant’s materials. Among a range of items, the admission committee considers previous academic records, the statement of purpose, references, and other records of personal and professional accomplishment. While I know that the outcome is not what you had hoped for, please know that the admission committee gave careful consideration to your application and was not able to offer admission to the program at this time.

As you most likely know, the CSD program at TC is extremely competitive.  This year the admission rate was approximately 14%.

You are welcome to submit a new application for Fall 2016.  The application will be available in September."

Happy I've been accepted elsewhere and best of luck to all!

I have been checking too and it still says Application is Under Review. I think I read in the forums last year that applicants heard back in April?

I was surprised because I heard back from Kean and they want their deposit by the 18th (tomorrow), but at their open house they said that they try to coordinate with other programs in the area to get all decisions out around the same time and before deposit deadlines....Unfortunately, that's does not seem to be the case this year.

I think Montclair's application deadline last year was March 1, so that might explain the April acceptances.

That would and last year Kean was undergoing their ASHA evaluation so they sent acceptances a little later as well.

Got into Hofstra! What do people know about their program/reputation?

Hi,

I just got accepted also! - I'd love to hear what people think about it.  I didn't make it to their fall open day and wish I had now - did anybody go?   I'd really love to know what kind of schedule they follow? (as in how many days per week they have classes / clinics and what time of day they usually are? - I'm going to have to figure out what my childcare needs will be if I accept).

So relieved to finally have an offer though!

Hi! Do you mind sharing your interview experience with Queens College? What kind of questions did they ask? Thanks :-)

Hi, I interviewed at Brooklyn College and at Queens College so far. BC's interview was much more formal and uncomfortable for me. There were 6 candidates being interviewed, a writing sample, some general discussion question along the lines of "What would you do if you found out you had given a client incorrect information?", etc. Then there was a tour.

QC interview felt more relaxed, and felt as if the interviewers were trying to get to know you rather than trying to see if you slip up. They asked the general"tell us about yourself", then "Talk about an experience / prof you had from undergrad that you liked &why" then "what do you do in your free time". There was no writing sample. Only 3 students in my interview including myself. Then, an interviewer gave us a tour because the students were in class at the time. QC also told us when to expect a reply by, april 1st.

So far, I've been accepted only to Adelphi. Have another interview with LIU Post, but I'm not as excited about that. Overall, my experience interviewing with QC felt better than BC.

Best of luck everybody!

Has anyone heard from Monmouth University?

Nope, but I called them about a week ago and they told me they're gonna start sending decisions out end of March/early April

Does anyone have any input/opinions on Kean vs. Montclair? I'm trying to make a pros/cons list to figure out where to go and was wondering if anyone was willing to help!

I am in the same boat! I currently take classes at Kean in their SLP Pre-Professional Program and I really find their faculty and staff to be extremely helpful. Also, Kean doesn't have a cohort program so it is more flexible what classes you take when, they also offer a few online courses, and later afternoon/evening classes while Montclair's courses are mainly during the day, but I don't really know a lot of the more specific things about Montclair (like just how helpful their professors are) because I have not taken any classes there.

Congratulations everyone! If anyone has specific questions about Montclair, feel free to ask me. I'm currently in my second semester of the program.

Lol I think the list would be shorter if I told you where I DIDN'T apply. I applied to as many schools as I could afford this time around because I only have a 3.5 GPA and a low GRE. I feel like everyone who's been accepted has higher than a 3.5 and stellar GRE's <_<

NY Medical, LIU Post, Saint Rose, William Paterson, LaSalle, Old Dominion, Longwood, Radford, USF, U Houston, Duquesne, Edinboro, Temple, SCSU, U TX El Paso, Misericordia, U AK Fayetteville = 17 Headaches

Koukla19 I was wondering when you heard back from St. Rose? Im in your boat. I applied to a bunch with a not so high GPA and terrible GRE scores. I'm assuming I will be rejected from St. Rose as well but I still haven't heard anything from them.

Just got wait-listed at Montclair... I'm dyinggg to hear from Kean... Apparently there were over 900 applications there so I'm not feeling great about my chances. Good luck everyone!

Anyone been in touch with St John's or Touro about when we can expect to hear from them?  I've seen a few people were accepted to St John's in Feb and early March, but it only seemed to be a few ...

Hi guys,

I have a question about Queens College. I was wondering if anyone knows if they are still doing interviews/accept people without bringing them in for an interview. I haven't heard anything from them and was wondering if there is still any chance (I've already been accepted to a few programs). Also wondering about this as I saw that Hunter isn't doing interviews this year!

If anyone knows anything please let me know!

Good luck to all!

Does anyone know anyone who has done the NYC DOE Scholarship? Did they have a good experience with the program? Do we get to chose which "high-need" school we work in or could they assign you to a school that's a 2-hour commute from where you live? Also does anyone know if we can participate in this for only one year instead of both years of graduate school? (that way we only have to commit working for 2 years instead of 4)
