Did you hear anything back from them? I'm assuming they sent out invites yesterday and that I didn't get one!!! You win some and lose some I guess, but I wanted to be absolutely sure before confirming with UVM as well.

I did not get any thing, so I'm assuming that I was not invited! Which is somewhat of a relief, because having to schedule and reschedule UVM would have been a nightmare. It sucks, but we're going to UVM's weekend!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!

@xSuperRaquelx OMG!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!! THAT'S SUCH AN AMAZING PROGRAM!!!! YOU'RE GONNA DO GREAT! Message me if you want to practice interview tips with each other, because I sure can use it!!!!!

I just received an email from Penn State that they have decided to discontinue their M.S. in Higher Education (student affairs emphasis). They are offering reimbursement for the application fee, or the forward of my application to the M.Ed. in Higher Education. All I can say is, wow.

It's leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want to judge a book (well, program) by it's cover but I'm seriously questioning if I even want to bother forwarding my app to the other program.

I would be thinking the same thing. On the one hand I'd be thinking "I put all this effort, somebody better look at my application," but on the other hand I think it would be strange to forward it because then the higher ed program will have a sudden influx of applicants from student affairs.

All of the effort I put into my personal statement for that program is what is really tearing me up right now. I do want someone to look at it, but I also don't know if I want to the M.Ed. program. I'm going to email them some questions to see how this would impact my chances of admission, because my personal statement was tailored to the M.S. program.

I was just about to say, you should email them and ask for clarification. I'm so sorry this happened to you; that's a real bummer! I've never actually heard of that happening before, but I know you're going to get in to where you're meant to go. That motto is what's carrying me through this insanely stressful process! If you need to talk, just shoot me a message! :)

UConn sent out interview invitations last night. I'm excited I got the invitation but I wish I had applied to UVM as well, though!

Wow, this is heartbreaking.  Hopefully everything will work out for you in the end regardless, but what a royal pain.  I can't imagine how someone whose *only* dream was Penn State's program must feel....

It's one thing for a school to dismantle a program, totally separate to do so after accepting applications.  Such a painful tease.

Thank you! And congrats on UVM! I didn't really read about their program until late into my application process and at that point didn't want to send out any more than I already was. I just applied for a summer internship there to try and make it up to myself, though. Fingers crossed!

So, funny story...I had been working out of the country for the past few months and my parents had been saving my mail in a big pile for me.  At the very bottom of the stack of 99% junk mail is a large manila envelope from Northwestern (I had applied to their Higher Ed program).  I thought that it must just be a magazine or brochure, since I hadn't heard anything from them.  Lo and behold, it was an acceptance letter dated two months ago!  And I hadn't received any email correspondence about it, nor had my status on the online portal changed! :P

Got the email from Michigan State: " SAA @ MSU Admissions Decision." Honestly, I wasnt all that excited when I saw it, and also not all that upset that I was rejected. The universe has a way of working things out in the end.

It's funny that you posted this, because I was so busy with classes today that I didn't get a chance to check my email. When I saw this post, I was like, "OMG NOOOOOO THEY'VE MADE DECISIONS!" Turns out, I got accepted! I'm excited, but I totally understand what you mean Raquel--the universe has a strange way of working out, indeed.

I'm with you. One of my advisors asked if I heard anything else since I last saw him and I told him MSU should have a decision soon but I wasn't feeling too hot about it... About an hour later I got the same email. Oh well! Still have a few more I'm waiting to hear from, but at this point I think I have my decision pretty locked in.

Gotta love NASPA and their list. Applied 9 places, still need to apply to one. I'm not going to find out anything until March, but I keep my email up at all times---just in case, y'know.

Hello everyone!

I've been checking gradcafe since I found it during a lovely Google search the other day, but it wasn't until I read this thread that I joined as a member! I love the support you're giving one another. I applied to 3 schools for a MA/M.Ed in Higher Ed: Loyola University Chicago  (accepted), University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (waiting for decision), and Marquette University  (waiting for decision). Good luck to everyone also anxiously waiting, and congrats to those who have begun to hear good news!

I hear ya. Rejected from two, hear back from one in two weeks, the rest in March. The going's been tough. *sighs*

Has anyone heard from UMD's master's in student affairs? I heard a rumor they called students whom were invited to interview last week...

Sorry to hear that, SAgal! It looks like you're still waiting to hear from two other schools so best of luck! ^_^

Hey all, newbie here. Grats so far to those who have already gotten acceptance letters! Like many of you, I've been checking results at an unhealthy rate... So far, I've applied to:

  • Vanderbilt, Peabody: Accepted (no information on funding or assistantships yet)
  • Michigan State University: Reeejected :(
  • University of Texas - Austin: Accepted
  • University of Pittsburgh: Awaiting decision
  • Seattle University: Awaiting decision

At this point, I'm leaning heavily toward Vandy. However, the uncertainty regarding funding makes me nervous. Does anyone have information on the approximate number of students who get assistantships and/or scholarships at Peabody? Also, how important do you think a college's reputation/name is in the field of student affairs? Just trying to weigh how much more I'd be willing to pay to attend Vandy, as Texas also looks appealing, especially if I can secure an assistantship with in-state tuition.

Anyway, best of luck of everyone!
