Duke admit: was your quant score really 150? I don't want to take you in bad faith, or sound harsh, but that's a ridiculously low score. Sure, GRE is only one part of your application, but that would be pretty exceptional to get accepted with that number!

Let's just be happy for the admit. There's no point to this comment.

So, I didn't get accepted at Duke. In fact, I didn't apply to places in the top 15 because, having read all of the exaggerations on this board regarding the GRE, I didn't think that I'd have any shot whatsoever.

But, I did get into a top 20 (UT-Austin) and one the best programs in my subfield, Stony Brook, (both of which I applied to simply as "reach" programs--again, based on the misinformation spread on this site) which is known to be quite quantitative, with a Q score of ~150, so I'm really not that surprised that such a score could get an otherwise stellar candidate accepted at Duke.

Congratulations, @Straightoutta, very happy for you!

@ezra123, no word yet (re: UVA waitlist), but will PM you if I do. Based on what I have heard from other regarding previous years though, it is likely that they will move on the waitlist at some point (just depends on how soon those admitted who they are matriculating elsewhere inform our admissions people of that). If you've any questions in the interim, feel free to direct message me.

Congratulations to those accepted by Duke and UNC! It is always nice to see someone happy, and that is because we all know how hard it is to wait for the answers.

Taking the previous years into consideration, I should be hearing only from NYU this week, one of my strongest fits. Crossing fingers.

It seems that there are no other Duke admits so far.

There is another one. I think Duke has already sent out all the offers and it's only a matter of time for people to either 1) check the emails, or 2) post the result on the survey page. There might be a short list of people who might get notified of acceptance if someone rejects the offer right away -- but the chance is low.

Does this observation/hypothesis sound right?

No status update on the self-service portal and no email from Duke. So goes at the UVA. Not sure what and when they are going to notify. That's the most stressful part of application cycle. Fingers crossed.

Congratulations for the big news! Did you receive email or randomly logged in to view the decision?

I randomly logged in, although an e-mail followed shortly thereafter.

And thanks!!!

Thank you and all the very best with rest of your applications (if any) and have a great year ahead. Perhaps the (expected) late response from Duke has to do with my late application completion. My last LOR was submitted on 21st Jan although the application and other supporting materials were submitted before Jan 12th deadline. Hoping to hear from both of them this week. :)

Just to speak to this point, I would agree that there is an overemphasis on GRE scores on this forum. Of course, they matter to an extent, but they are far from the end-all-be-all. My Q GRE score was 155, and I've been admitted into 3 programs, including Duke, so far. To be fair, my writing sample was an economics research paper that I figured would more than make up for my lukewarm GRE score.

Judging from the previous years, I think Duke sends all of its offers in a couple days. So I think there is still some chance for us.

By the way, congratulations Duke admits!
