durlov Posted April 7, 2007 Author Posted April 7, 2007 i just got an acceptance from harvard "seas" on 4/5/07. i'd applied to the ee phd program. didn't qualify, according to the prof. got accepted into s.m. in cs. still good since i want to study vlsi and comp arch for which it doesn't seem to matter whether i'm ee or cs. just that now i have to reapply for phd when i'm done with the s.m. not perfect, but still very good for me! ...i think! :?
crazyone Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I've been relying on GradCafe for information about admission notifications quite a bit so I decided to finally post my information...these are all PhD or MS/PhD programs. Rejected: MIT CalTech Accepted: Harvard (got unofficial acceptance from professors at the end of January) Stanford (in early March, then a few days later they sent me a fellowship offer for the first year) USC (end of February, with USC Provost Fellowship) Michigan (early February, no real news about funding, but I didn't really follow things up here) Berkeley (it took them forever to send me a decision--I just got the acceptance yesterday!) I spent quite a bit of time deciding between Harvard and Stanford, but I finally settled on Harvard.

errjun Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 still waiting for Brown (MSc Biomedical Engineering); it only took 8 emails for them to reply that I'm still being considered (How rude of me, when their website says we can expect to be notified in February or March...)
Grad Lad Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I just rejected by UCSD (EE PhD). Seeing from the Results section, so many people did get their rejections yesterday. What the heck man?!?!?!
sigh Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Anxiously waiting to hear from MIT...based on last year's results we will ALL BE REJECTED in a few weeks. But until then I can hope.
skTareen Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Hi Friends, I am an international student and applied for PhD position. I have a bachelor of engineering(BE) degree in Electornics Engineering(73 %age) and master of Science degree in Systems Engineering (70 %age) with GRE Score of A=560, Q=740 and AW=2.5 . I have applied for following universities and waiting(did anyone get acceptance?) and now wants to guess my chance to get acceptance in these universities. 1) University of Central Florida (UCF) (need assistantship too) 2)Washington University in St. Louis(WashU)-(need assistantship too) 3) UT-Austin(may be without assistantship) 4) Purdue (may be without assistantship) 5) UIUC(may be without assistantship) Regards
whitemud Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I applied to MS/PhD programs for EE, and have heard back from a few: Stanford: accepted with fellowship Penn State: accepted with RA-ship and top-up fellowship MIT: accepted (just heard on Thursday) RPI: accepted Still waiting on: Cornell CMU (they lost my transcript, and unnecessarily wanted TOEFL scores)

Looks like you'll have an interesting decision to make :-)
whitemud Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 What's your interest? Looks like you'll have an interesting decision to make :-) I've concentrated my undergrad in electromagnetics, and would like to continue that. Interesting decision, indeed! (I didn't expect to have to make one, really - I thought Penn State would come through with the best offer and MIT and Stanford wouldn't bother.)
wwhrs Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 still waiting for USC, UMN accepted: CNSE of SUNY Albany

(I didn't expect to have to make one, really - I thought Penn State would come through with the best offer and MIT and Stanford wouldn't bother.) Hmm. Well it's hard to put down the big names, MIT and Stanford. The most important thing, I think, is to find a good advisor, or at least to know there are several good names you could work with. Even some large schools have deficiencies in some areas. Nothing worse than arriving at BIG School, and finding that all the Widget guys are leaving or on sabbatical or not taking students... Speak to the other grads on visit weekends, get a feeling for the 'grad quality of life'.

Speak to the other grads on visit weekends, get a feeling for the 'grad quality of life'. Oh, of course! Thanks for the advice. I did a lot of on-line investigation about this when I was figuring out where to apply to. But, it'll be nice to go to visit days and figure out what the reality of the situation is, and what grad students thing of their advisors. I found it extremely frustrating that MIT's faculty site was completely out of date. Though it'll take a lot of willpower to make a finite decision (or to turn down MIT if they give me money), if I can't find an advisor that's better than my current guy (who just offered me an RA), I have no problem staying where I am. On-topic a bit more: Has anyone heard from Cornell, yet? They're making me nervous.
trillian Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I heard from Cornell on the 18th. I did get a fellowship though so maybe they haven't sent out the regular acceptances yet...
whitemud Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I heard from Cornell on the 18th. I did get a fellowship though so maybe they haven't sent out the regular acceptances yet... That's odd. I talked with a professor who seemed rather excited. I'd like for them to tell me, at some point, that they'd rather not have me, if that's the case. *twiddles thumbs*
whitemud Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 So, I contacted Cornell for another reason and was told: "I cannot say for certain but there should be additional offers made very soon." What does this even mean? Was I waitlisted, and didn't know it? I'm not worried (Hell, i got into MIT), I'm just confused. ETA: Nevermind, got in. Accepted with funding: Cornell Stanford PSU ("visiting" this weekend) Accepted, no word on funding yet: MIT RPI Withdrew Application from CMU (I love Pittsburgh, but they're silly)
thanden Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Congratulation Whitemud! Could you let everybody know ur stats?
