slarsen2 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Hey guys, I have been a long time lurker here. I am a current junior majoring in AUSP. I started my undergrad experience as a nutrition major. Coupled with my mother's declining health and mono, those classes killed me. I failed a chemistry class. I retook it of course, and on my GPA it is not shown anymore. Like the fail has been replaced with my retaken grade completely. However, I have heard a rumor that CSDCAS accounts for all classes (so both the F and the C.) This drastically alters my GPA. Is this true?
Jolie717 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Yes it is true. However, there are plenty of programs that do not use CSDCAS!
SouthernDrawl Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 From the FAQ: CSDCAS does not recognize individual school’s forgiveness, academic renewal, or grade replacement policies in regards to repeated courses. All grades which you earned for repeated courses will factor into your CSDCAS GPA.
dddhfna Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/instructions-and-faq/academic-history/coursework/index.html Sadly, that is true. I retook 3 courses, and it definitely lowered my GPA. They also do not count A+ when they calculate GPA.
slarsen2 Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 Oh gosh. Well. I am only applying to 2 schools due to family issues this upcoming fall---1 requires CSDCAS, 1 does not. What a dramatic difference this makes in my GPA! Oh how I loathe freshman me.

I could not relocate and applied to mostly online schools. There are several programs, some of which do not utilize CSDCAS. Be sure to look into those!
keeks121 Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Some schools don't use the GPA on CSDCAS. The only real answer is you won't know until you apply. Write about it in your SOP and how you grew from that set back. At the end of the day, it's all up to the admissions committee. Good luck! mbf and DeWi 2
