Certain_Entropy Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Rejected from both cornell and upenn today. wow, i guess that's the final word. grad school is not in the future for me next year
It'sgonnabeme Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I wonder if they will accept earlier and then process the rejections on Monday. This is the only school left that I might consider over my current acceptance. It'll be nice to have this part done. That was exactly my suspicion. They will send out acceptances on Friday, close their office and stop checking emails during the weekend, and then come back and send out all rejections by Monday.
LordNorth Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Good luck mate! waitlisted at UNC waitlisted at UNC!!!!! Sorry for the excitement, but this is my first positive response. I was emailed by a professor who mentioned the chair should have already emailed me. But I never received that email... so wondering if there are other emails that have been sent to me that I haven't received...

Rory Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Rejected from both cornell and upenn today. wow, i guess that's the final word. grad school is not in the future for me next year so sorry....I think there are a couple of us who will end up in the same boat....are you planning on reapplying next year?
APGradApplicant Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 so sorry....I think there are a couple of us who will end up in the same boat....are you planning on reapplying next year? The other option is that there are some lower-ranked (but still decent) schools that do MA admissions w/ spring deadlines. If you're eager to get to grad school now, then you can always do the MA one place and then prove yourself and transfer somewhere better...just a thought
gravityflyer Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Hi everyone! Out of curiousity: Has anyone applying for NYU - International Relations heard anything yet or know when they usually send out their decisions? Best of luck to everyone! I personally know someone who has been rejected and believed someone on this forum as announced an acceptance. I personally haven't heard anything. Not sure what that means... I'm extremely anxious since its my top choice! Ugh!
Sanssouci Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Hooray! acceptance for MA from Durham University, so now that's pretty much my academic season over, my choices ranked: =1) Bristol University =1) Durham University 3) UCL 4) King's College London I would have UCL as top if there weren't monetary considerations (in terms of living costs), but both Bristol and Durham look amazing, so I'm happy enough. Technically I still have Leipzig and UIC to go, but I'm not planning on accepting UIC even if an offer comes, and only choosing Leipzig if it's funded.

fromark17 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 A few Columbia decisions have recently been posted on the results page. What should we make of them? Is anyone claiming one?
APGradApplicant Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Good question about Columbia, fromark. What I'm wondering is how someone who refers to a "potentiol" adviser got accepted to a Columbia PhD program... DJ_CA, APGradApplicant and anxiousapplicant 3
curiousgeorge84 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 A few Columbia decisions have recently been posted on the results page. What should we make of them? Is anyone claiming one? Here are my thoughts on Columbia given that many acceptances went out last week and they only updated some people's status in the past couple days. 1) They were so backlogged that they never got their act together and took some people's money and never gave a good look to the application 2) They only update people's status before they are about to send them an answer. I have a feeling there will be mass rejections tomorrow. I really don't see the possibility of more acceptances given the number of acceptances last week and waitlist as well. You don't decide the waitlist before the acceptances.
betteryear Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 A few Columbia decisions have recently been posted on the results page. What should we make of them? Is anyone claiming one? did you hear anything from MIT? or are you assuming since there was no Fedex?
fromark17 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 did you hear anything from MIT? or are you assuming since there was no Fedex? I'm assuming because I got nothing. Since they overnight the letters, I think everyone who will be admitted has been.

Just got an email from MIT, yes MIT is done notifying. One more rejection to my long list of rejections. All acceptance letters were sent by Federal Express Priority on Monday, February 22nd. Denial notifications will be posted via email with a link to CollegeNet on Monday, March 1st. Susan Twarog Graduate Administrator MIT Department of Political Science

tomorrows verse Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Has anyone not heard anything from Cornell--I haven't heard anything from our pal Tina yet? I'm quite sure I will be rejected based on my earlier results from similarly competitive programs...I figure they will probably finish up the rejections on Monday though, thus delaying the inevitable.

I haven't heard anything from Cornell either. I'm not that far down the alphabet, so I don't really get it...

As I remember they're Maryland and UIUC, but maybe I'm wrong...What school are you leaning towards now in this pre-UMN phase? Edited February 25, 2010 by APGradApplicant
Jud M Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Have a fun weekend, applicants! I know I will For the record, this was not part of my email. Congratulations, all future inquiries will recieve the canned response: "I'm sorry, I am unable to give out any further information at this time." Judith M
applying12010 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 sigh...the UMN email was a facetious and rude joke.
Jud M Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 sigh...the UMN email was a facetious and rude joke. Yes, I know, but the way it was being re-quoted left it open to misinterpretation.
APGradApplicant Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) Yes, I know, but the way it was being re-quoted left it open to misinterpretation. Jud M- My apologies. As is probably apparent from this forum, all of us are a little bit stressed out and on edge as we reach the end of what for many of us has been a long process. I assumed that once the quoted e-mail ended with your closing, people would know that I was then shifting to my own commentary, stating that I'd be a little stressed out this weekend waiting for a decision from UMN. The joke I was making wasn't even supposed to be imitating you- rather, it was me expressing to the others who have applied to UMN that we'll probably be anxious this weekend. And even more importantly, I was certainly not trying to fabricate or alter what you had written. Once again, my apologies. Edited February 26, 2010 by APGradApplicant
APGradApplicant Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Soooo...I'm thinking it makes sense at this point to edit my signature and place UMN in the rejections...
plisar Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 At least you still have that Almanac of American Politics. Maybe you can open it to the part where Nixon was outed. natofone 1
