SpeechLaedy Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Hey all! I know we're all anxious to hear back from the programs we've applied to, and I hope & pray we are all accepted That being said.. after doing lots of research and talking to many people, it seems like sometimes (no matter how good your stats are) people don't have the best of luck getting into any programs when they apply. So me being a person who prepares for the worst but hopes for the best - I have been trying to figure out some alternate options just to prepare for the worst-case scenario, God-forbid it ever comes up. So far I think I would try to become a BCBA since I will be seeking that certification as an SLP anyway. Has anyone else put any thoughts toward this?
jmk Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Some things I have seen others do: -Americorps Literacy -ABA -subbing -teacher credential program -SLPA -paraprofessional (special ed assistant)
Crimson Wife Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Master's in Deaf Education in one of the programs with a Listening and Spoken Language rather than an ASL emphasis and then certification as an Auditory-Verbal Educator. Being an AvEd. is pretty similar to an AVT except the pay isn't as good and it's classroom teaching rather than 1:1 or small-group. SpeechLaedy 1
